“The Premier League has written to the government today to express its concern at the decisions taken to restrict, and potentially delay, the planned programme for the return of fans to football stadiums.

“With test events now capped at 1,000 supporters, we believe they will not provide any opportunity to properly test and evaluate measures designed to maximise fan safety.

“Therefore, Premier League clubs will defer holding test events until a sufficient number of fans are allowed back to enable thorough trials to take place. At 1,000 supporters, not only would there be little to learn from a test event, but each match would be heavily loss-making.

“For each month of the season without fans, more than £100 million is lost to football across the leagues, with consequent damage to the local and national economy. It also harms the employment prospects of more than 100,000 people whose jobs depend on matchday activities.

“Our clubs have already prepared test events and can offer larger scale trials to prove it is possible to produce bio-secure, safe environments, as was proved through the successful delivery of Project Restart.

“The Premier League recognises the ambition of the government’s Operation Moonshot and will support the project’s objectives to get fans back into stadiums. However, we believe measures are already available which would allow the safe return of fans and should also be activated now.

“As the government begins its review of the 1 October date for the return of spectators to sport, the Premier League asks that the high safety standards which can be achieved by our clubs are fully taken into account before any decision is taken and that sport is not left behind other industries.”

“I’ve seen a massive improvement in my game, even just from watching the players and watching how everyone else does things and how I do things,”

“It’s a lot faster and quicker. Everything is bigger, there’s bigger, more physical players. You’ve got to adapt quickly but it’s really good because you can learn a lot from the players around you which is good for me as I’m really young in the game. I’ve found it really beneficial for me.

“It was a real good feeling. I think anyone who is about to make their debut for United would have a little bit of butterflies, but when I came on it was a really great feeling because I’ve been watching the team since I was a kid. It was a real proud moment.”

“Harry in particular [has been great to me],”

“He’s really vocal and really specific in what he does and I can always turn to him for help if I’m struggling with anything. I’ve found that really good. And Brandon has helped me settle through anything throughout my time at the club and he made it really easy for me when I made my step up from U23s to the first team.”...

“Teden has helped himself as well by talking to everybody, the more you communicate the more you get to know somebody,”

“It’s much easier to go into a group and stay in the shadows and just watch everything, but Teden gets involved and that’s made it easier for him.

“There’s obviously me and Mason and all the other boys who have been here for a very long time and we’re a group and a team. Everyone knows what everyone has been through at this club and what it takes to get into the first team and knows what hard work everyone has put in.

“I know what Teden has done throughout the years and the likes of Marcus and Jesse as well. We’re trying to keep it going and we’re role models for the players who are below us in the younger ages in the Academy and Marcus and Jesse are the younger role models for us who have done it and who we look to.”...

"We plan for the very best team that they can put out,"

"Whatever changes they make they're extremely strong – 11 different internationals. Realistically, it probably is the biggest club in the world.

"They have unlimited finances, they're a fantastic squad and it's a great opportunity for us to test ourselves against them.

"This is a wonderful side that we're coming up against, and we're proud of it because you've earned the right to play them."...

The new Red News Podcast 90 - the fall out from the opening day defeat to Palace.

An emergency General Meeting of the Podcast is called to immediately discuss the first defeat of the season, in the first *&*& game!

The independent, satirical Manchester United supporters' fanzine - for adults only, contains expletives, talks MUFC as a new season starts, with a familiar feeling. "If we're s**t at the back, we're s**t at the back." #mufc

"You see Liverpool getting a player for £40m, £25m, you see other clubs do it"

"Werner is quite cheap compared to some of the prices of players you see in the market and United always seem to have to pay top dollar and the people at the club will not like that, almost as though they are easy pickings. And there is a suggestion of that ‘

"The problem is, they have to find a way to get deals done and they can’t get deals done efficiently. And it is negligence not to get the squad in place, they have had six months since March when lockdown was on being able to deliberate, do zoom calls, connect with agents, move things into place.

"There is no excuse really for not getting your transfers done before the start of the season. They need four or five players, so to only get one done… I know Liverpool have only got theirs done in the last couple of days, but there is a feeling they are in control"

"United have got the money – if they can spend £90m-100m on Sancho, they have got the money to do the deals.

"They have not got the quality or experience of football people within that club, it looks like a convoluted and complex structure, I’m not quite sure where the decisions lie. ‘Liverpool are definite, they are precise. Look at Chelsea, they are definite and precise, Man City are, but Man United do not seem able to get their business done. And that unfortunately has been a massive problem"...

"A sporting director from a top football club called me and asked me to tell Matthew Judge to answer his phone. The club needs to stop being so arrogant."
