“We go Sunday at 12 o’clock. Why? Why us? We should be the last team to play in the weekend – it is as simple as that. We should play Monday. Or we should play the last match on Sunday. Not 12 o’clock. At least let us sleep a little bit on Sunday, right? We cannot even sleep on Sunday morning. We have to wake up at seven o’clock to eat and come to the game. My time in Italy was when the Italians decided that clubs that go to the knockout stages and play on the Tuesday or Wednesday, the week before they play on the Friday. In Portugal, every team in Europe plays on the next Monday. So every country is doing that. Germany is doing that.”

“It’s the simple criteria of ‘we give you so much money’ which is true, and we appreciate that. Without them and their money the Premier League wouldn’t be the Premier League. The clubs would not be so rich. Yes, they are totally right and, yes, we have to thank them so much for what they are building. But you can do that and just have a little touch. Can you give me an explanation of why we play Sunday at 12 o’clock? Nobody can give me that explanation. Why don’t we play at five o’clock? With Monday maybe they can say, ‘Ah, they go with the national team and we have to protect the national team with one more day’. OK, there is a reason. But why do we play 12 o’clock? It makes no sense. It’s just a little bit of common sense, if they want. If they are happy with having one English club in the Champions League and one club in the Europa League... wow. I don’t ask for me, I ask for everyone. Aren’t we good enough to have more teams in the Champions League and Europa League? I think we are good enough to have more.”
