You can help our independent fanzine survive - by subscribing now.

    https://fundrazr.com/RedNewsSupport

Dear Reds, we need your help.

If you think what we do is important, then a subscription right now is a game changer for our future as an independent fanzine in the year ahead.

No football = no games to sell at.

We need your support now more than ever.

We believe the terraces of Old Trafford and its culture is a little bit stronger when Red News is around, and that our fanzine still provides a strong voice, and a different take on supporting MUFC that is worth keeping.

This is our third annual subscription campaign. Each one keeps the fanzine alive for the following season. The current surreal events mean that of course we do not know what type of United, and football, lies ahead for the next year. But we know this will pass and United will return. And whatever happens, we aim to continue to publish, and then be selling as soon as we can outside Old Trafford as we have for the past 33 years.

So on our 33rd anniversary we are opening up our new advanced annual subscription campaign because without your subscriptions, we will not be able to continue, nor be around in 2021. With your support, we will.

We pride ourselves on still being a voice for normal Reds just like you. For giving space for reasoned, well thought out opinion, and for the type of exclusives and gossip you know us well for. And to praise, or hold the club to account, where it is appropriate. To shine a light where it is needed. A different type of fanzine. But one that still holds the same principles as when we first started in April 1987.

We have weathered many storms, including a decline in matchday sales, and all the changes, both good or bad, at Old Trafford in our time, but events right now out of our control are different...

We only survive because of our readers. Without advertising, you keep us alive. MUFC has always had a strong fanzine culture, with strong voices all around Old Trafford, and we are just one of many, yet it's vital we can plan ahead without worrying month by month.

If games are behind closed doors, we will still publish. We WILL still publish. If needs be we will make certain mags double issues every second month like our one will be in May 2020.

The target this summer is 333 Reds.

It doesn't sound like much. That is a huge deal for us. The campaign will end on July 31st, and hopefully we can make target like we have over the last two summers.

For less than the price of a pint, each month. Every single one of you can make the difference. And you will get all 10 mags (or if needed, 5 double issues) we will publish in the coming year.

We always prefer print because it is our preferred way, and also helps our printer, but any which way you support us or subscribe helps - so we also offer a pdf digital version.

We believe we offer a unique window onto United. We are passionate about our club. And we show it. You might agree, or disagree with some of the content. That's healthy. That's the point. It's not just one view, but a mix of different voices offering strong, important thoughts on our club.

    100% independent, 100% unofficial.

We think we play a very small part in the enjoyment of some MUFC fans' matchday or supporting culture, a nice tradition as well, and we really want to continue to be able to do so. We realise these are tough times for everyone in all aspects of their lives so only subscribe if you can and are able to. And we wish you nothing but goodwill with our best wishes to you and your families.

For those able to subscribe you can support your fanzine at https://fundrazr.com/RedNewsSupport

Please share, pledge and help us reach our target. This will mean the fanzine, the website, the podcasts; all that we do at RedNews will continue, offering a strong, independent voice.

And please every single one of you take care during these quite unique set of circumstances. Please stay safe, you and your loved ones, as we want to see you all at Old Trafford soon, come rain or shine, we will not care!

Thank you. And thank you for keeping this voice alive.

    Barney, RedNews

For info; the subs taken out now will start from RedNews274 which will publish at the end of July/start of August. Our May double issue will conclude the sub campaign from 2019/20 - so if you subscribed then and now renew, your new sub would start from next season (we will work this out and let you know). If you are a new subscriber for the first time, the sub will also start from RedNews274 which will publish at the end of July/August and you would need to order the May 2020 double issue separately, unless you tell us otherwise... But we can accommodate any request, of course!

Any questions whatsoever, let us know!

“Sir Alex was an incredible manager of our rivals, but I've always got on well with him.

“I think he always liked me as a player. This message he sent [wishing Fowler's football team in Australia good luck] is my greatest memory of him.

“When you deal with people like him, it's not always through football that you realise how good they are. He didn't have to do it but he did it without hesitation.

“We know how passionate and how good he was as a manager. But let me tell you this: he is a gentleman, first and foremost.”

“When he [Fred] arrived there it wasn’t an easy transition. He had a few tough months in the beginning and that was normal,"

"He figured out quickly what he had to do different and now you see him he is more consistent player for United and more dynamic because he has changed his way he plays.

"When he was in Brazil he played further forward and now you see him more of a defensive role. It’s taken him time to get used to it but he has turned into a top player for United and it’s always good to see Brazilians doing well.”

"He has a good personality, is very positive and confident and he knows what he is looking for.

"I know he’s got a lot of management technique from Sir Alex Ferguson and he’s very good at what he does.

"A lot has changed at United recently. They’re looking for young players and that’s a big change. I’m sure he can make United a top team again and win the Premier League.”

"I like the 3-4-3, which is unusual in the game at the moment,"

"But the 4-3-3 we're using at the moment suits us quite well, given the players we have at the club.

"Coaches always have to be flexible to understand a system - and knowing when to change it."

"The games where we've switched to a 3-5-2 has shown our flexibility.

"I think for the game at Chelsea - we wanted two forwards, and without playing a 4-4-2.

"We got the most out of the players, and they seemed to enjoy it."

"We certainly didn’t have an argument, let me tell you. Yeah, I like my rugby league, and someone did change the channel and I wasn’t happy. We didn’t have an argument about it because the next day I remember coming down for breakfast and Wayne said to me, “oh did you find your controller? And I told him where to go and that was it really. If that’s an argument, god help us.

‘But I certainly didn’t respect Wayne because he stood up to me because he wanted to watch X-Factor or whatever he wanted to watch. I had a lot of respect for Wayne because I thought he was a brilliant player. I wouldn’t say I warmed to the guy. I certainly didn’t dislike him, but the lad was on a different wavelength, different banter. If hiding my controller was that type of banter then not for me"

"There is certainly a feel-good factor back at United over the last couple of games [prior to the Lockdown],"

"There's also the thought in the back of your mind where you think if Paul Pogba can come back and Marcus Rashford can get fit this season, it would be a big boost for them.

"But it's still a long way back for United yet, they are a long way behind Manchester City and Liverpool. The signs are obviously a lot better than they were 6-12 months ago, the signings have all settled in well and will only get better with time.

"If we get around to playing games and they can have a good finish to the season, get one or two very good players again in the summer then that's another big step in terms of their recovery, but there is still a bit to go."

This is what Ed Woodward said to the fans forum this week ....

Dear Reds, we need your help - https://fundrazr.com/RedNewsSupport

If you think what we do is important, then a subscription right now is a game changer for our future as an independent fanzine in the year ahead. No football = no games to sell at. We need your support now more than ever. We believe the terraces of Old Trafford and its culture is a little bit stronger when Red News is around, and that our fanzine still provides a strong voice, and a different take on supporting MUFC that is worth keeping.

If games are behind closed doors, we will still publish. We WILL still publish. If needs be we will make certain mags double issues every second month like our one will be in May 2020.

The target this summer is 333 Reds.

    Thank you - https://fundrazr.com/RedNewsSupport

"Welcome to the second Fans' Forum of the year, and the first to be held remotely via conference call. I’d first like to say that I hope you and your families are all safe and healthy.

"It would have been easy to postpone this meeting until we can convene again at Old Trafford, but we feel it’s perhaps more important than ever to have open lines of communication between the club and our supporters when we’re grappling with such extraordinary challenges.

"A lot has happened since the Forum last met in January, so let me take a few moments to summarise the approach we have taken in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

"I’d like to reinforce that our thoughts are with everyone affected by the pandemic, and especially those who have lost people close to them.

"Our top priority has been doing what is necessary to help slow the spread of the virus, and that will remain our guiding principle.

"This has obviously included postponing all our games until further notice, and temporarily closing Old Trafford and the AON Training Complex to all visitors and most staff.

"We have not enjoyed taking these decisions, but public health and the health of our employees must always come first. I will now summarise what we’ve been doing to support the NHS, our community, our staff and of course our fans.

"On behalf of everyone at Manchester United, I want to pay tribute to the heroic work being done by the NHS and all key workers in fighting the virus.

"We are proud to support those efforts, with club medical supplies, protective equipment and food donated to local hospitals, and gift packs to NHS workers.

"We have also put facilities and staff at the service of the NHS: The Manchester United Foundation has made its fleet of vans available for NHS courier services and club staff are volunteering for the NHS, while continuing to receive full pay.

"After discussion with local NHS trusts, there is more support to come from the club in this area.

"We recognise that this is an economic crisis as well as a health crisis and that many vulnerable members of our community will be affected.

"That’s why we have donated over 30,000 items of food and drink to local charities, and made a £100,000 joint donation with Manchester City to the Trussell Trust for use by 19 food banks across Greater Manchester.

"I’d like to put on record our appreciation for the role of the Manchester United Supporters’ Trust in helping coordinate this latter donation, building on the excellent work that they normally do collecting for food banks on match days.

"The Manchester United Foundation has continued to work throughout the pandemic, helping support the children of key workers at those local partner schools which remain open, and we are working on further support to help alleviate food poverty, in Manchester and beyond, through the Foundation.

"Protecting our people is another crucial priority. That’s why we continued to pay them in full, without recourse to the government’s current furlough scheme, and made goodwill payments to over 3,000 casual workers to protect their incomes while our operations are disrupted.

"Of course, everyone is grappling with the economic realities of the pandemic and we are no different, so the longer the crisis continues the greater the impact will be for every club, including ourselves.

"We have taken a similar approach with you, our fans, extending the deadline for season ticket renewals and committing to provide rebates or refunds should any postponed games be cancelled or played behind closed doors.

"We also made a contribution of £350 towards the travel costs of almost 700 United fans with tickets for our Europa League away game against LASK, following the late decision to play behind closed doors.

"These were some of our most loyal supporters who have followed the team to the farthest reaches of Europe and we felt it was right to give something back.

"We are also looking out for our elderly and vulnerable supporters during the lockdown, including welfare calls by club staff and club legends to over 3,000 season ticket holders who are either over the age of 70 or disabled.

"We will continue looking for more ways of supporting those in need for as long as the pandemic continues. This is consistent with our values as a club, our strong roots into our community, and the deep relationships we have with our fans.

"It is also important to acknowledge the part played by our successful business in allowing us to fulfil our social responsibilities. We have always believed that our commercial model gives us greater resilience than most clubs and we are grateful for the enduring support of our commercial partners in helping us achieve that.

"However, nobody should be under any illusions about the scale of challenge facing everyone in football and it may not be ‘business as usual’ for any clubs, including ourselves, in the transfer market this summer.

"As ever, our priority is the success of team, but we need visibility of the impact across the whole industry, including timings of the transfer window, and the wider financial picture, before we can talk about a return to normality.

"On this basis, I cannot help feeling that speculation around transfers of individual players for hundreds of millions of pounds this summer seems to ignore the realities that face the sport.

"Like all of you, we are eager to see the team return to the field as soon as we are advised it is safe to do so, hopefully to complete a season which still held so much promise for us in the Premier League, the Europa League and the FA Cup when it was suspended.

"We are in constant dialogue with our governing bodies about when and how that will happen and we will continue to engage with this Forum to keep fans consulted.

"And while it may be that games need to be played behind closed doors in the shorter term, we all recognise that football will not be fully back to normal until supporters are once again in attendance.

"As today’s agenda shows, we are pushing ahead with a series of initiatives to enhance the matchday experience at Old Trafford, including the expansion of the dedicated atmosphere section of the Stretford End, the planned trial of rail seating, and the completion of our expanded state-of-the-art facilities for disabled supporters.

"These matters pale in comparison with the immediate priority of fighting coronavirus. But they give us things to look forward to when we are eventually allowed back to Old Trafford to watch football.

"It will be a very special day when that happens. In the meantime, on behalf of everyone at Manchester United, take care and thank you as ever for your unwavering support."

“Obviously, I think Ole is now more thoughtful as a team manager than when he was an individual player,”

“He’s now more sharing with the group.

“He’s gone from being an individual to someone who thrives of sharing with others and wanting to win as a team.”

"He has helped me a lot in this process of adaptation and transition. He's a guy who was an idol at the club and was a great player in the same position that I play.

"On a daily basis, he helps me a lot, always talking to me. After training we always do a little work to complement it, sometimes finishing, sometimes passing. He's a guy who understands the game, who lived it, and it's impossible for there to be anyone better than him to help me. He knows about the difficulties, the shortcuts, and he tries to show me everything there is in training and in games. He's a guy who has been of huge importance for me at United and I'm very grateful to him"
