Fernandes is asked to describe himself on a football pitch #warrior

Dear Reds, we need your help - https://fundrazr.com/RedNewsSupport

If you think what we do is important, then a subscription right now is a game changer for our future as an independent fanzine in the year ahead. No football = no games to sell at. We need your support now more than ever. We believe the terraces of Old Trafford and its culture is a little bit stronger when Red News is around, and that our fanzine still provides a strong voice, and a different take on supporting MUFC that is worth keeping.

So on our 33rd anniversary we are opening up our new advanced annual subscription campaign because without your subscriptions, we will not be able to continue, nor be around in 2021. With your support, we will. We pride ourselves on still being a voice for normal Reds just like you. For giving space for reasoned, well thought out opinion, and for the type of exclusives and gossip you know us well for. And to praise, or hold the club to account, where it is appropriate. To shine a light where it is needed. A different type of fanzine. But one that still holds the same principles as when we first started in April 1987.

We have weathered many storms, including a decline in matchday sales, and all the changes, both good or bad, at Old Trafford in our time, but events right now out of our control are different... We only survive because of our readers. Without advertising, you keep us alive.

If games are behind closed doors, we will still publish. We WILL still publish. If needs be we will make certain mags double issues every second month like our one will be in May 2020.

The target this summer is 333 Reds.

    Thank you - https://fundrazr.com/RedNewsSupport

"Warrior, because for me every game is a battle. You need to go out to the game and just understand you need to beat your opponent.

"With all of the respect, because you need to have respect for your opponent, but you need to beat them. If you don't beat them, they will beat you.

"It doesn't matter who is on the other team. If it is a friend, because I have friends playing in the Premier League, I don't care. At that moment, I will be the biggest enemy they can have."

"The one I liked to watch and follow was Iniesta, because Iniesta is a mix between an eight and a 10. It is a way I can do better, between eight and 10.

"It is the guy who always likes to have the ball, who always likes to take the risks, and I think Iniesta was one of the best in the world.

"For me, it was impressive how Iniesta finished his career without the Ballon d'Or [award]. With everything he won, it is difficult for me to understand."

Hi reds ... You can help our independent fanzine survive - by subscribing now.

Dear Reds, we need your help.

This is our third annual subscription campaign. Each one keeps the fanzine alive for the following season. The current surreal events mean that of course we do not know what type of United, and football, lies ahead for the next year. But we know this will pass and United will return. And whatever happens, we aim to continue to publish, and then be selling as soon as we can outside Old Trafford as we have for the past 33 years.

We have weathered many storms, including a decline in matchday sales, and all the changes, both good or bad, at Old Trafford in our time, but events right now out of our control are different...

We only survive because of our readers. Without advertising, you keep us alive. MUFC has always had a strong fanzine culture, with strong voices all around Old Trafford, and we are just one of many, yet it's vital we can plan ahead without worrying month by month.

If games are behind closed doors, we will still publish. We WILL still publish. If needs be we will make certain mags double issues every second month like our one will be in May 2020.

The target this summer is 333 Reds.

It doesn't sound like much. That is a huge deal for us. The campaign will end on July 31st, and hopefully we can make target like we have over the last two summers.

For less than the price of a pint, each month. Every single one of you can make the difference. And you will get all 10 mags (or if needed, 5 double issues) we will publish in the coming year.

We always prefer print because it is our preferred way, and also helps our printer, but any which way you support us or subscribe helps - so we also offer a pdf digital version.

We believe we offer a unique window onto United. We are passionate about our club. And we show it. You might agree, or disagree with some of the content. That's healthy. That's the point. It's not just one view, but a mix of different voices offering strong, important thoughts on our club.

    100% independent, 100% unofficial.

We think we play a very small part in the enjoyment of some MUFC fans' matchday or supporting culture, a nice tradition as well, and we really want to continue to be able to do so. We realise these are tough times for everyone in all aspects of their lives so only subscribe if you can and are able to. And we wish you nothing but goodwill with our best wishes to you and your families.

For those able to subscribe you can support your fanzine at https://fundrazr.com/RedNewsSupport

Please share, pledge and help us reach our target. This will mean the fanzine, the website, the podcasts; all that we do at RedNews will continue, offering a strong, independent voice.

And please every single one of you take care during these quite unique set of circumstances. Please stay safe, you and your loved ones, as we want to see you all at Old Trafford soon, come rain or shine, we will not care!

Thank you. And thank you for keeping this voice alive.

    Barney, RedNews

For info; the subs taken out now will start from RedNews274 which will publish at the end of July/start of August. Our May double issue will conclude the sub campaign from 2019/20 - so if you subscribed then and now renew, your new sub would start from next season (we will work this out and let you know). If you are a new subscriber for the first time, the sub will also start from RedNews274 which will publish at the end of July/August and you would need to order the May 2020 double issue separately, unless you tell us otherwise... But we can accommodate any request, of course!

Any questions whatsoever, let us know!

"I can only speak well about Solskjaer, believe me,"

    "I would give him a long-term contract.

"He’s a very prepared coach and Manchester United has started this project, this journey, with many young players, many British players and they will continue with this project.

"Because of the person I got to know, I hope Solskjaer has success at the club."

"I still remember Marcus Rashford’s first session with the senior squad like it was yesterday,"

"I immediately thought: ‘wow, this is an incredible player’. He did so many impressive things for a player of his age and the way he improved in every detail really impressed me.

"If he continues to work the way he has done so far he can be a Ballon d’Or winner. I’m convinced of this.

"He impressed me the most of all the players at United and he’s very young and can still improve. For me he can reach the level of Kylian Mbappé and compete for the Ballon d’Or for years to come."

“I’ll be honest and say that I remember my first game for United being an incredible emotion,”

“I felt like a child. Old Trafford is something fantastic, there’s a reason that it’s called the theatre of dreams [RN ... err we don't call it that !!!!]

"My debut was perfect because we beat Tottenham at home and I heard the fans screaming my name: a wonderful feeling.

“I remember I was in Mikael Silvestre’s house and we were watching a game - I think it was Chelsea and when they lost, we were champions

“I started jumping around, and Mikael was looking at me thinking, ‘What is he doing?’. Because he’d already won four leagues and I was screaming and he told me to calm down. I think your first one is so amazing.

“I’ll be honest, when you start winning the third one, the fourth and the fifth, you celebrate but not the same way,”

“You celebrate because of the cameras and stuff, but it’s not the same. Ferguson taught us all to be like a robot. I don’t think I was a human being playing for Manchester United. When we won games, when I was doing something good, I wasn’t pleased. For me, it was something normal.

“I always say that [Didier] Deschamps taught me winning is important, but Ferguson taught me that winning is normal. I remember after big wins against Liverpool, he just said, ‘Well done, son’. He was never screaming, apart from when we won the Champions League final.”

“Ferguson took the microphone and he said, 'Well done guys, I’m really proud of you. We won the league and the Champions League, but next year if someone doesn’t want to win again, I will cut his contract. Enjoy your summer with your national team and I don’t wish you good luck’.

“I remember I came home, I dropped my bag and was thinking ‘this is the feeling to win the Champions League?’. But actually, winning was normal and you shouldn’t be excited about that.”

“Every time I was shaking the hands of Sir Bobby Charlton, I felt something. And every time I saw him on the plane, travelling with us, when I know what's happening with all his ex-team-mates, I was like, 'This person is a miracle’.

“But maybe some kids... and it's not an excuse, even if they are like six, seven... when they play for this club they need to know every person working for this club, and this is really important. You don't have any excuse. Just watch some DVDs like I did. And it's really important.

“So every time I was putting this shirt on, and I know how many people have worn this shirt and won [trophies]. Respect this tradition, the philosophy. I was like, ‘I can't let down those people’. When you play for Manchester United, it's not for you. You don't use Manchester United, and because you're a United player so you're famous, you're on social media. You play for United because you have to give to those people [the fans].

If games are behind closed doors, we will still publish. We WILL still publish. If needs be we will make certain mags double issues every second month like our one will be in May 2020.

The target this summer is 333 Reds.

"Once when we were in pre-season, and before we came on the bus, we were really tired, I'll be honest with you, and there was a queue of fans. And the players were like: ‘When no one signs, no one has to sign’.

“So we went straight to the bus, every one of us, and I looked out of the [coach] window and I saw Sir Alex Ferguson signing each autograph. I swear he must have signed for like 45 minutes. He was signing [for] everyone. I say ,'Guys, when the boss comes on the bus, we are done"

“He came on the bus, he gave us the hairdryer. 'Who the hell do you think you are?! Those people are paying your salary. Those people are coming to watch you. Now get down there and sign.' And we had to sign for each fan. But that's the mentality.”

“I remember after that game I wasn’t looking into the eyes of my teammates I was looking into the eyes of Arsene,”

“He was having Alex Ferguson at a short distance like that [clenches fist].

“He grabbed him and each of them were very angry with each other and almost started to fight with each other. It wasn’t about me or the players it was more about the manager.

“I came in late and I remember that there were two crowds of people confront each other and I spilt some of my water onto them, accidentally of course.

“It was funny to watch, I wasn’t involved. You always expect me to be involved but I wasn’t in this situation.

“We were talking (on the Monday at the training ground) but we were waiting for fines to be handed out and of course to United.”

"Obviously amazing comments. Especially for the player that he is, he's probably one of the best to come out of England, so it's high comments from a high player.

"It makes you a bit upset that I could have gone a bit further. I should have gone a bit further. I'm hoping still to go a bit further. But to the likes of Pogba and Jesse; I think both great players. I think we had a great team, [born] around the 92s and 93s, that area of our year.

"I knew I had ability, but I didn't realise and understand... obviously these are high players and I didn't understand their thoughts at the time. I used to just go there and love playing football."

"I wouldn't say I struggled with pressure because I didn't really feel pressure. Maybe some things in my life, when I was young, now I would sit there and not do things or go a different path and stuff like that.

"Going into Manchester United was a nice environment to go into every day, world-class players, just enjoyable. If I could go back through my life again there would be a lot of things I'd change.

"I grew up at United, I was there from the Under-9s. I'd skip training some days, and I would wake up and don't know why I'd done it, but I'd skip it. And it's hard to get me off the training field now."
