“The loan deal went until the end of May now, so obviously he's supposed to be going back. We're in dialogue. They've been great towards us, his club, and allowed him to play for his dream club. It's been a dream for him and hopefully he can finish off what he started, hopefully with a trophy for us. At the moment, nothing has been agreed. Their league is going to get started soon so we're just waiting to see.”

"We're back in training which has been great. The boys have been fantastic, the weather's been good and they've enjoyed it. Hopefully now we've proved we can do this safely and we can move to the next step. It's been really enjoyable being on the training ground again. Everyone's looking sharp, everyone's been in with a good mood and we've been splitting up in groups so fours and fives together and they've really done well. Hopefully, they can as I said, step up and go to bigger training groups but so far it's been good."

"They need to recruit in the right manner and get the right people out. The big one for me is Pogba. There is a lot of talk about him. People mention top players and captains. When things weren't going right in our time, Roy Keane put things right. He would drive our team on, he would dig deep and make sure we had a say in every game we played in because of his desire. When you look at Pogba, yes, he may be a talented boy, but does he have the same mentality? Does he really dig deep and get Manchester United out of the mire when the going gets tough? For me the answer is no. He gives off the wrong vibe as a Manchester United player. Yes, it's good to be cocky and arrogant at the right times, Dwight Yorke had that as well, a big smile on his face when he played. But Yorke had a desire to do the right things at the right times. You've got to have that, and I don't think Paul Pogba gives you that. He would be one that would need to go so that you can get someone in with the right mentality and desire to drive Manchester United out of the position they are in."

The ref from that Champions League final treble win, remembers the game

Dear Reds, we need your help - https://fundrazr.com/RedNewsSupport

If you think what we do is important, then a subscription right now is a game changer for our future as an independent fanzine in the year ahead. No football = no games to sell at. We need your support now more than ever. We believe the terraces of Old Trafford and its culture is a little bit stronger when Red News is around, and that our fanzine still provides a strong voice, and a different take on supporting MUFC that is worth keeping.

So on our 33rd anniversary we are opening up our new advanced annual subscription campaign because without your subscriptions, we will not be able to continue, nor be around in 2021. With your support, we will. We pride ourselves on still being a voice for normal Reds just like you. For giving space for reasoned, well thought out opinion, and for the type of exclusives and gossip you know us well for. And to praise, or hold the club to account, where it is appropriate. To shine a light where it is needed. A different type of fanzine. But one that still holds the same principles as when we first started in April 1987.

We have weathered many storms, including a decline in matchday sales, and all the changes, both good or bad, at Old Trafford in our time, but events right now out of our control are different... We only survive because of our readers. Without advertising, you keep us alive.

If games are behind closed doors, we will still publish. We WILL still publish. If needs be we will make certain mags double issues every second month like our one will be in May 2020.

The target this summer is 333 Reds.

          Thank you - https://fundrazr.com/RedNewsSupport

          Pierluigi Collina

“I can’t believe 21 years have passed since that game,”

“It was a definitely a memorable night… mainly for the last three minutes!

“Otherwise the match was not that great, it was a normal match, if you can say the Champions League final is a normal match.

“But with the three minutes of stoppage time and the two goals scored, and the trophy going from one side to another side, it made that final the ultimate final in the history of the Champions League.

“Until 90 minutes I thought Bayern Munich were going to win, they were better and Man United were trying to do everything, and Schmeichel even went up for a corner, they were desperate, but definitely it was a surprise for everybody.

“After the first goal for Man United everybody was waiting for the extra-time and 30 more minutes of a show, I think there was only one minute and something remaining of the match, but then Solskjaer scored!”

"Now obviously we’re waiting for the clubs to have their meeting and hopefully bring us good news about a return to full training. That’s what we’re all looking forward to. We’re all very excited and hoping that the meeting goes smoothly. I think everyone feels really safe at our training ground because the club has gone to huge lengths to make it that way, and everything has been followed to the letter. We’re even more excited because we feel ready and confident for the season to restart"

                Colin Omogbehin

"You would have put your house on him progressing as an attacking player and having a career in the game,"

"But instead he's ended up being a fantastic right-back and with his one versus one defending. In terms of that, I've not seen a player like this for many years."

"I think MUFC have been doing a fantastic job in getting that out of him.

"Before the virus you started to see him get a lot more in the final third, getting crosses in, going past people - something he can bring to the table.

"But ultimately he's a defender and he'll defend first. And he's fantastic at that, he's world class at one v one defending.

"I think he can be the complete full-back. The expectation from MUFC full backs from the past is always to go and join in the final third when they're attacking, so he will suit the style that Manchester United want and expect from their full-backs.

"So yes over the next few years I think he can develop into the complete full-back."

                  Moses Simon

"If the Manchester United deal can be sealed permanently, not just a loan deal, I think it will be good for for his football, his family and for Nigeria football,"

"Odion Ighalo has proved to be a good striker in Man Utd in the few games he played.

"It will be good for Nigeria football to see Ighalo succeed at Old Trafford. He has shown good qualities of succeeding already."

You can help our independent fanzine survive - by subscribing now.

                          https://fundrazr.com/RedNewsSupport

Dear Reds, we need your help.

This is our third annual subscription campaign. Each one keeps the fanzine alive for the following season. The current surreal events mean that of course we do not know what type of United, and football, lies ahead for the next year. But we know this will pass and United will return. And whatever happens, we aim to continue to publish, and then be selling as soon as we can outside Old Trafford as we have for the past 33 years.

MUFC has always had a strong fanzine culture, with strong voices all around Old Trafford, and we are just one of many, yet it's vital we can plan ahead without worrying month by month.

If games are behind closed doors, we will still publish. We WILL still publish. If needs be we will make certain mags double issues every second month like our one will be in May 2020.

The target this summer is 333 Reds.

It doesn't sound like much. That is a huge deal for us. The campaign will end on July 31st, and hopefully we can make target like we have over the last two summers.

For less than the price of a pint, each month. Every single one of you can make the difference. And you will get all 10 mags (or if needed, 5 double issues) we will publish in the coming year.

We always prefer print because it is our preferred way, and also helps our printer, but any which way you support us or subscribe helps - so we also offer a pdf digital version.

We believe we offer a unique window onto United. We are passionate about our club. And we show it. You might agree, or disagree with some of the content. That's healthy. That's the point. It's not just one view, but a mix of different voices offering strong, important thoughts on our club.

                          100% independent, 100% unofficial.

We think we play a very small part in the enjoyment of some MUFC fans' matchday or supporting culture, a nice tradition as well, and we really want to continue to be able to do so. We realise these are tough times for everyone in all aspects of their lives so only subscribe if you can and are able to. And we wish you nothing but goodwill with our best wishes to you and your families.

For those able to subscribe you can support your fanzine at https://fundrazr.com/RedNewsSupport

Please share, pledge and help us reach our target. This will mean the fanzine, the website, the podcasts; all that we do at RedNews will continue, offering a strong, independent voice.

And please every single one of you take care during these quite unique set of circumstances. Please stay safe, you and your loved ones, as we want to see you all at Old Trafford soon, come rain or shine, we will not care!

Thank you. And thank you for keeping this voice alive.

                          Barney, RedNews

For info; the subs taken out now will start from RedNews274 which will publish at the end of July/start of August. Our May double issue will conclude the sub campaign from 2019/20 - so if you subscribed then and now renew, your new sub would start from next season (we will work this out and let you know). If you are a new subscriber for the first time, the sub will also start from RedNews274 which will publish at the end of July/August and you would need to order the May 2020 double issue separately, unless you tell us otherwise... But we can accommodate any request, of course!

Any questions whatsoever, let us know!

“That night we were missing our two best players in Keano and Scholesy. That was a huge handicap for us. You’re missing your driving force, your cleaner-upper in midfield, in Roy, and Scholesy was the perfect team-mate, who could create and score.

"So the manager had to re-jig the whole team, and we didn’t know what the side would be. Teddy played really well when he came on in the FA Cup final, and had a chance of playing. David May played in that final too and had a chance of starting, with Ronny Johnsen going into midfield.

“So the manager had a dilemma, but it worked out in the end, moving Becks into the middle, bringing Nicky Butt in, putting Jesper Blomqvist on the left and Giggsy on the right.

“But it was pure desire and drive that got us there – and we knew we could score. It was a great night with a great group of lads, and a huge squad effort the whole season. You don’t just need a fantastic side, you need a really good back-up as well, which is what got us over the line.”

“When we won it, I think it was a relief, because we’d been trying for four or five years, in 1999 we’d gone through a tough group stage and really tough quarter-finals and semi-finals against Inter Milan and Juventus. In the final we came up against a great Bayern side. We didn’t play well but battled away and got the luck we deserved.

“It was an incredible 10 days, winning the Premier League, the FA Cup and then finishing off with the Champions League.

“Will it ever be done again? Every now and again someone comes close, and I think that shows how hard it is to win them all in one season. I’m just glad we’ve still got that honour.”

Berbatov thinks MUFC should be allowed to loan another player if they lose Ighalo

"If a team is losing a loan player because of the situation, the federation should allow a team to get someone else because of the situation. If Ighalo goes, United should be allowed to get a replacement.

"They are in a great place going into this final part of the season and they have a great chance of getting top four, but it will be very difficult as no one wants to join for nine games.

"The best scenario is for them to come to an agreement to keep Ighalo for the few games, otherwise they will lose out on a player that can score goals in the race for the top four."
