"[Bailly's] been on the grass, he didn’t do everything [yesterday] but he’s done some light training and luckily there was no concussion as we said. It was more of a real bad knock with Dean’s [Henderson] knee hitting him, so positive news.”

“Luke and Victor both trained fully and Paul as well was out there. He didn’t do everything, but he is more or less also ready. So a good clean bill of health.”

“[Cavani] will be very important for us and instrumental with his experience and his goals and his threat in the box. For us, we almost look at this Burnley game now as the start of the season. Everyone is more or less fit, we’ve built our way up to good fitness, bounced back after the disappointment of last week’s semi-final and beat Watford with players who haven’t played for a while. Now, everyone is mentally and physically ready for the rest of the season.”

“The staff have done a great job – both the technical staff and also the medical and fitness staff. They work on the players every day and the players are looking after themselves, which I think is a must. I’m very pleased with the way they’ve handled this situation, because it’s a difficult situation, especially mentally, being in lockdown for so long. That also might help with the rest and recovery, in that they don’t have too much to do outside of football.”

“It’s a great challenge and it’s what the Premier League is about if you want to be successful. You need to be mentally ready and earn the right to play because they’re one of the better organised teams in the league. They’ve got some strengths that not many other teams and clubs have, so in their own way these games have a massive impact on the morale and the spirit in our team, because if you win games like this it gives you a very, very strong basis later on.”

"There’s Barnes or Wood or Rodriguez with the quality of delivery from Westwood, McNeil and Robbie Brady, who we know about, and also Gudmundsson. We know about their deliveries and also crosses in open play – the full-backs bomb on and put crosses in. They have physically very strong and clever strikers and there are not many teams that have had a striker partnership as long as they have because they know each other inside out – I’m sure they even know what they each eat for breakfast, their centre-forwards! [Smiles] It’s a challenge we just have to embrace and be ready for.”

Ole talks through the three different mindsets of those involved with MUFC

“The season for the fans is a different season compared to the players. I’ve been a player myself, I’ve been a fan myself, now I’m a manager and it’s different mindsets for all of them. Fans, yes you’re allowed to be excited, but I can’t remember one league table from a January that I was part of as a player. I cannot tell you where we were on 1 January in 2002 or 1998 or whenever, so it’s irrelevant really. We just have to focus on developing the team and the way we play and the mentality, and be ready for each game.”

Ole explains why fitness and having players available could be the difference this season

“I think it’s going to be very important if you’ve managed to keep a fit squad,”

“It’s not just about fitness injury-wise, of course – it’s also the Covid. You can see teams being really badly hit at times.

“Our boys have done well in that regard. We’ve not really lost many. The players themselves have done better.

“You’ve got less things to do outside football than you might. You stay at home, you rest and recover and maybe for your own mental health you do some things back in your own gym. You’re working and looking after yourself. I think that’s also a factor here.

“I don’t think they’d be going out too much anyway, but you’ve got no chance of going out [at the moment]. Hopefully they’ll find out that we can live this way for the rest of our careers and get the most out of our careers!”

“The fitness staff and medical staff here… we’ve done things inside the club that I think have improved us ... brought the right people in, put them in the right positions. I’m very pleased with the work everyone has done.”

    Ole

“Harry is playing definitely, that’s for sure. If he is fit. If he doesn’t wake up tomorrow with an illness. So you can only take three points from the game that you are playing in. You cannot put your eyes on games beyond this one.”

Ole reviews the season so far and previews what he expects to come in the league

"We have to be aggressive. We have to go into every game humble and working hard,”

“Don't even think for one second that you've cracked it if you are near the top. That's not the type of players we have; we have players who should play on the front foot, [be] aggressive, work hard, be hard to play against, no matter what.

“But, of course, the group mentality is improving all the time. Now it’s a different challenge. It’s Burnley away and we're in this position. It doesn’t really matter where we'll end in the league after this one, as long as you focus on this game and this game only. The league table doesn’t really matter now, but you pick up points and, when you get to March and April, that’s where the league is going to be more or less decided.”

“We knew that this season was going to be difficult for us,”

“We started later than everyone this season – we've got this game to catch up. We didn't have any pre-season.

“I remember I said – and I wasn't happy with what I said, actually – that we needed to ‘hang in there’, but that's not what I meant. I meant keep picking up points. It's not about just keeping in there, but getting the performances right, getting the points on the board and don't let teams run away with it. And we've done well.”

“I think all the teams want to take a grip on the Premier League, of course, but it’s that kind of season, that kind of year and situation where there will be more ups and downs and less consistency in results and performances. For me, it’s exciting. As a supporter or a fan, it’s more interesting when there are more teams in and around each other, compared to last season when one just ran away.

“We are better off this season than compared to the same time as last year. We've won more games, we've scored more goals, we've played better football. So, of course, that's a positive. But no one remembers January league tables. For us it's just about developing this team, and improving.”

De Gea expects life to get tougher in the league from now on

“Yes I have been fighting for the title in a couple of seasons when Sir Alex was here. Now we are there again and it’s taken us a lot of time to get there to be honest and we cannot miss this chance,”

“We have to be very, very focused in every game and try to win all of them. Hopefully if we are good physically and mentally then we can be there and we can fight for sure for the Premier League.

“It’s true there is a lot to play yet, but of course it’s a chance to be there, to be top of the league,” he adds, when asked about the significance of going top now, even though there are still many games to come.

“It’s a good challenge for us. We will play against a difficult team in Burnley, away from home, but if we want to win the league then we have to win these type of matches. I’m saying the same thing, but all we can do is focus on each match, take it game-by-game and be 100 per cent focused.”

“We have won many games in a row away in the Premier League – that’s not easy,”

“Now everything is very tight, the team has improved a lot, but every Premier League match is difficult and Burnley will be, like I said, a big fight. But we have another chance to make a big step to win the Premier League.”

“I’m very, very proud to reach that number of games. It’s great for me. I feel good, confident and proud. I’ve played a lot of games but hopefully like I said there are many more to come,”

“I feeling very well. I’m training hard, feeling sharp and confident in the games. When you feel well and train well then in the games it’s easy to play. You have to be focused of course and always play at 100 per cent and helping the team is the most important thing. The team is winning and in good form so everything at the moment is good.
