Victor talks about MUFC confidence and the performance v city



“We are always confident going into every game. We know we can beat every team,”

“It’s a very tough away game to play against a really good team. It shows what a great team we are and what we can do on the pitch.

“We need to keep working hard and hopefully we can get some more wins.”

“Yeah obviously we are so pleased with the performance,”

“We defended really well as a team, not just the back four. I think we defended well, right down from Anto [Anthony Martial] to Deano [Dean Henderson].

“Everyone put in the effort that was needed and we got a clean sheet and three points, so everyone was happy.

“They didn’t create a lot of chances. We defended really good and you always have to stay focused because you know they can create chances from anything.

“Like I said, I’m very happy and it’s a very deserved win for us.”

Ole says Cavani has a niggling injury


”He’s got a niggle again unfortunately. He had to come off training yesterday. We had to make a team without him.“

Bruno thinks MUFC had better chances to score than city

“I think it was almost perfect. We created a lot of chances where maybe we could finish better, or play a better last pass or last shot,”

“When we create chances it’s always good because if you create it’s a sign you’re playing well and trying to do something different.

“I think we played a little bit better in the second half because in the first half they pressed as well. We had more counters but in the second half we are clearer and we take more control of the game at times.

“They have more of the ball than us, they pass more times with the ball. Anyway, [in terms of] opportunities I think we had the best ones and for me the most important in the game is the result. The result for us is on our side, so it’s perfect.”

Bruno talks about penalty pressure and the background noise of critics

“Every penalty has the same pressure for me,”

“It’s always pressure to take a pen, doesn’t matter if it’s against City, or another team. It’s always pressure to take the pens.

“I like that kind of pressure. It’s good pressure. I knew what I had to do. I did it in the right way with the right power and I’m happy to score, of course.

“Honestly for us it’s about winning. People will always complain about everything. Today it will still be Bruno never scores in big games.

“They will put open play no goals, it was a penalty [and say] it doesn’t count! So for us the most important thing is winning the game.

“It doesn’t matter how you score, when the ball touches the net it’s a goal. I will be happy and it doesn’t matter if it’s me or another one scoring.”

Bruno celebrated his penalty with a thank you to his family

“It’s for my kids,”

“I think most people already know, my kids are the best [thing] of my life and every time I score it’s for both of them and also for my wife for supporting me in this difficult period.

“I know everyone thinks for players it’s a bit easier to be training, play, training, play, but sometimes it is tough and for the support they give me in all this difficult period it’s praise for them.”

Maguire talks about Henderson and De Gea taking turns in goal

“He [Dean] is a confident lad. To play in goal for Manchester United you have to be confident because it’s probably the most scrutinised position in English football,”

“It’s good to have that competition [with De Gea], but I’m sure he’ll be very happy tonight to keep a clean sheet, especially in a Manchester derby and obviously being a Manchester United fan growing up.”

Maguire likes to see Luke bombing forward

“We’ve encouraged Luke to get forward more and more. He’s creating chances, creating assists. We’ve been getting on him to score some goals because that’s the final part of the jigsaw,”

“He has that much ability – he can do everything. He shouldn’t stop at creating shots and creating chances, so to get a goal today is really important for him and for his confidence to go to the next level, and to bring back to the team as well. The more goals we score the better it is.”

Maguire felt United winning was down to good tactics and planning

“We have brilliant coaches and a brilliant manager and brilliant analysts as well,”

“Credit to them because they are the ones who sent us out in that formation and those tweaks when they have the ball. We knew they were going to keep the ball at times and the positions that they find themselves in, they have a lot of possession.

“We’ve seen that in recent games, so we had to be patient at times, but we had to make sure we kept getting up to the ball, kept getting contact, keep making tackles. I felt that we did that really well.

“For sure we can improve, we can do better in parts of the game. But it’s an important win, an important performance after a disappointing trip to London in midweek. Now we have to dust ourselves down and go again. We’ve got another big game on Thursday.”

Ole talks about a title race


“We just take one game at a time, of course they’re too far ahead to think that we should catch them. Last year we caught 15 points over Leicester, but of course these are a different proposition. They’ve been excellent and even today, they do put you under so much pressure that you see you’re playing against a very, very good team.”

Ole felt the early goal set the tone and then concentration saw MUFC through

“It sets the tone for the game a little bit and I thought the first 10 to 15 minutes were excellent. We were on the front foot, pressing, making them make mistakes and I thought the tempo was really high. They settled into the possession and pushed us back too much for my liking, and we gave the ball away too much, but still we got to half-time and we could adjust that a little bit, be more positive, don't think about the result, just have a good performance and win the second half as well.

“You have to defend for so long and they have got players who are incredible. The tactics are brave and they play in such a way where there are threats everywhere - right, left, centre. There is penetration so you have to focus for 90 odd minutes so the boys deserve all of the praise that they will get tonight, but then forget about it because it is AC Milan on Thursday.”

Martial and Shaw needed late decisions about playing in the derby


“Martial was a doubt before the game and Luke was a doubt before the game, the two of them - what a performance by the whole team, but especially the two of them when you think they had to do the warm-up before they could say to me they were alright to go. I am very happy with them and it just shows that we are getting more and more robust, more resilient to little things that maybe before that been 'oh no I can't'. We needed them, the team needed them and they knew. I am delighted with the attitude because in games like this you don't belong to yourself anymore, you belong to Man United. You go out there and do your best for Man United.”
