Pogba talks about playing during Ramadan

“I would say now I’m just getting used to it. I’ve been doing it for years. I have a professional nutritionist as well here, who helps me with what I have to eat and also when I train, he gives me some stuff, some protein, so I don’t lose too much muscle and it’s okay. I’m lucky. It’s not that hot, you know, so I can deal with it. It’s not that hard, you know. It’s okay and it’s for a good cause so it’s good”

Ole on meeting the protesting reds at Carrington

“I will always listen to the fans and I thought it was the only right thing was to go and listen to them and speak with them and have a nice discussion with them. A peaceful discussion. It’s important that we respect each other and each other’s views. I said a few things what I think will do in the future. What we spoke about, I don’t really need to discuss that but it was a good 10 minutes. I was happy with that, of course. We didn’t shake hands, we gave a fist bump and we parted.”

Ole on the previous game v Leeds this season

“We started unbelievably well - we scored in our first two attacks - and it was never a 6-2 win. We've look at it, we've analysed it ourselves, and I don't expect the same scoreline because the difference between the teams was not four goals. We were clinical. We scored some fantastic goals. We had some great saves by David at important times. Just before half-time, it could have easily been 4-2, just after half-time they had chances there as well. We know we will be stretched physically and mentally in this game. It's a completely unique game of the season”

Ole on the Leeds v MUFC rivalry

“They mean a lot to me. We know the history about the Leeds of the old days, Super Leeds, that was the generation before mine. That was my dad's generation and he’s grown up with seeing them winning the league. I’ve played in some massive games against Leeds. We had a proper challenge from that team in early 2000s, with for example Eirik, Eirik Bakke, played for them. We as a team got stretched against them, we looked forward to those games and we had some fantastic games. There was respect for the level, they stretched us. I feel the same now with Leeds team coming up this year. They’ve shown their quality and they’re going to stretch us. We have to be ready for this game, physically and mentally.”

Ole on the failed Super League

“First of all, I'm very happy that the fans have voiced their opinion and that we've listened to them. In a strange sort of way, it's brought the football pyramid or community together. I think that's important. I'm a supporter myself and there'll be a day that I come back and watch Man United and I want to watch a Man United team with a fear of failure. That's what I thought about it. I didn't like the concept anyways because it has to be on sporting merit. We want to earn the right to play in Europe. We know we have been pioneers, we have been in Europe for many years, with the Busby Babes. That's one part of it. We want to be part of a successful European campaign again - some of my best nights have been something that we've worked really hard towards [in Europe]. To get that feeling, that fear of failure, you cannot give it because your name is such and such, you have to earn the right to be there. To get the best possible performance, I've always felt you have to step out of your comfort zone; it spurs you on, living on the edge a bit. For me, I'm very happy that all the clubs have admitted their mistakes, that this was a bad idea and the way this came out as well. Just when we talk about bringing fans back into the stadium and we get this, the last two games of the season, and we weren't able to look forward to it. We have a banner at Old Trafford - 'football is nothing without fans' and we've felt that for more than a year, it's been a difficult year. And now when we're just going to welcome back in, we get this. So the preparation for Leeds was a bit different but that's a part of being in this industry and this club as well. United is the biggest club in the world and we want to be part of European football but we want to do that like like my players did last season. I think they were excellent my players, because when I talk about this fear of failure, they were afraid of not making the Champions League, we were so many points behind, they pulled themselves together, we came together as a team and achieved third which was a very good achievement. This year we've worked hard, we're striving towards trophies and we're second. I back my team to be in the top in Europe but I still think that that fear of failure is helping us do that. Being a sporting competitor as I am, my nature is not being handed things, we cannot be handed a place; that's my opinion.

“I've said what I've said about the Super League. I'm so happy that all the owners, all the clubs involved, agreed that this was a mistake. I've always had a good working relationship with the club and the owners. Of course, behind the walls of the building, we speak, they listen to my opinions and we're working to move Man United forward. And it's important. We all want to be better and improve. That's what my job is: to improve the result and the performance of the team. This weekend is a good chance and it's a big game in our history, we know that.”

            Ole on Woodward leaving MUFC

“Well, football is emotions and emotions run high in football. I've had a very good working relationship with Ed. The club will have to move on without him, I'm sure Man United will always move on and we'll work. I want to work as long as Man United want me to work here and hopefully we can end the season successfully and Ed is part of that.

              RedNews needs your help.

              Pledge and support at https://fundrazr.com/rednews2021

              Dear Red,

We hope you are ok amidst all this.

You have kindly supported our independent fanzine and fan culture in the recent past - and we are wondering if you might be able to do so again now, during a period where we haven't been able to sell at a game now for 13 months and where without this campaign support, the future of RedNews is at risk.

Today is the 34th anniversary upon which we received our very first print run of the mag; I can remember the excitement of seeing that small box, and still get a buzz when each new mag still arrives now! We're sending our loyal readers this appeal today before the campaign officially launches on the 34th anniversary of selling, on Tuesday - time flies and all that! We hope you can help give the campaign a really positive opening before it's announced everywhere.

This year our Target = 334 Reds signing up! By July 31st 2021.

              Pledge and support at https://fundrazr.com/rednews2021

If you believe in fanzines + RN, please do support if you can.

Behind closed doors has destroyed match day sales of Utd's first fanzine.

We need to reach target for the fanzine to survive. Support us or lose us.

              100% independent, 100% unofficial.

An independent fanzine which passionately believes in MUFC fan culture and giving YOU a voice. Fanzines are important to us. And, we feel, important to you as it provides a different voice - yours - away from the mainstream and official mass. We want to remain strong, especially in difficult times like these - and with your support we will keep printing.

We know there is a lot going on, and a lot for readers to be dealing with at the moment - so we're asking for your support right now only if you are in a position to give it. And we hope you and yours are all ok.

For the fanzine, it's undoubtedly our biggest and most important appeal/sub campaign, one that decides if we will be here in the next 12 months - we haven't sold at a game in over a year, and whilst we now have hope of some kind of a return, we still remain fearful that a full Old Trafford might be some time away. The impact on RedNews has been dramatic. This sub campaign guarantees Red News publishes for the next season ahead.

We've carried on printing since last March, but a significant downturn in orders have reflected the difficult times. If we don't make target, we might not be able to continue; fanzine, podcasts, etc.

We want to carry on printing for 2021/22 - and with your support we can.

We're having to think a bit ahead - so we've made the decision to keep printing double mags next season (21/22). So you won't miss out on content, this will now be six big double issues for a sub (at 72 pages each), meaning, in terms of content, it's 12 mags of the old format for your yearly sub. We also hope to provide a unique subscribers gift if we reach the summer sub campaign target.

We have never needed your support as subscribers as much as now - so if you can pledge a sub, be it print or pdf, you are helping to keep RedNews going.

              Pledge and support at https://fundrazr.com/rednews2021

We still believe the terraces of Old Trafford and its culture are a little bit stronger when Red News is around, and that our fanzine still provides a strong voice, and a different take on supporting MUFC that is worth preserving. We believe we continue to offer a unique window onto United. We are passionate about our club. And we show it. You might agree, or disagree with some of the content. That's healthy. That's the point of a fanzine. It's not just one set view, but a mix of different voices offering strong, important views on our club. And then try to have a laugh at it all.

So on our 34th anniversary we are again opening up our new advanced annual subscription campaign until July 31st - and the target will be 334 Reds signing up. Last year you kindly helped us break the 380 mark. Please support if you can.

Take care, and thank you for continuing to keep OUR voice alive.

              Barney

              Pledge and support at https://fundrazr.com/rednews2021

And if you aren't in a position to subscribe now but want to help RedNews - you can always order a single copy of our latest fanzine available at https://rednews.bigcartel.com/produc...sue-march-2021

For info; the subs taken out now will start from RedNews284/285 which will publish in August - unless you tell us otherwise. Our May double issue 282/283 will conclude the sub campaign from 2020/21 - so if you are a current subscriber and subscribe now we will just add this onto the existing one and your new sub would start from next season. If you are a new subscriber for the first time, the sub will start from August, unless you tell us otherwise... But we can accommodate any request, of course!

We do not have an automatic subscription function, so rely on you renewing, thanks!

Any questions whatsoever, let us know.

And, just, thank you. And please take care.

              Glory Glory Man United!

              Pledge and support at https://fundrazr.com/rednews2021

Your contact email addresses will remain private
We will NEVER share them with other people or third parties.
And this is the last time we will email you about this campaign - unless you contact us - though we obviously really hope you'll sign up and pledge.
              Take care Reds.

                Matic talks about Dirty Leeds

“We've had all week to train and to prepare,”

“The players look fresh. We are ready, well-prepared and happy that we have one more game to play against Leeds to show our qualities.”

”We were just shown one interesting detail before training; since August 2019, we haven't had seven days to prepare for the game, we've always played mid-week. So it was nice to get fresh.

“It's a big game. We all know what this means for our supporters, and of course for their supporters. It's going to be very interesting to watch that. We go there to fight for three points.”

“Our last game, it was eight goals in that game, so we expect an interesting game again,”

“Of course we respect them a lot, we know that they are a good team, with a great manager, that they are also a big club. It's going to be very interesting for supporters and for us.”

Greenwood is learning from the footprints left by other players

“I’ve come a long way really. I always knew I could take the pressure, take it into the first team,”

“It’s been a good journey and there have been lots of ups and downs. But I’m only 19 and I’m ready to carry on fighting for the badge and for United.

“I had Marcus [Rashford] and Scott [McTominay], Jesse [Lingard] and Paul [Pogba], the likes of them coming up through the Academy.

“It’s them just leaving little footprints behind you that you’ve got to follow, do what they did and take it in your stride really and when you come up to the first team it’s like a family anyway, so you just do what you do.”

“You couldn’t ask for anyone better with Marcus being in a similar situation that I have, and then there’s [Edinson] Cavani who has won it all,”

“He’s played for a number of years and it’s perfect timing for him to come into the club really at the time he did.

“He’s helped me a lot this season – he speaks to me sometimes and tries to help me work on my heading and stuff like that. He’s a nice lad and I’m very pleased that he’s here.

“You always need the older players in the team who have done it all and then you’ve got the younger players looking up to them and you feed on stuff they’ve done. You just watch them in training and you add it to your game.

“You’ve got the likes of Nemanja [Matic] who has won Premier Leagues with Chelsea, you’ve got Juan [Mata] who has played for many years. You’ve got Bruno [Fernandes] in behind you in that 10 position and he’s always talking, always giving me tips on playing. You’ve got a lot of older players you can just watch and take note of.

“We’re all good players here at United, so there is never time to relax because there could be that kid coming up who wants to take your position; you’ve got to always want to keep fighting.

“You’ve got to always want to play football and I always want to play for United, and be the player scoring goals for Manchester United.”
