Ole speaks about Eric Bailly signing a new contract which lasts until 2024

“I am pleased that Eric has signed this new contract. He is still learning and improving all of the time under the coaches here.

“Eric has improved his robustness since my time as manager and he will continue to play a significant part in the squad.

“He possesses fantastic speed, timing of tackle and has that aggression which, of course, you need as a centre-back. He is a popular member of the squad and we look forward to continuing to work with him going forward.”

Ole picks out the positives from the goalless draw v Leeds #Fitness

“I thought we played well. I thought we played really well, especially second half. I thought we dominated. We didn’t really give any chances away, we just didn’t have the ball fall correctly for us [in the] second half, in the big moments we had. We had some decent chances but unfortunately we couldn’t take them. I thought up until the last 18 metres or yards [we were excellent]. That’s where it stopped; the quality or the decision-making let us down just in that last moment. The game was played in their half in the second half. Then it is hard to get the big openings. I thought we had a good chance with Bruno and Dan had a couple of decent opportunities. Apart from that, we spoke about it before the game that there would be blocks and blocks and blocks, because they are good at following their men. They did well at their defending.”

“When two teams meet, you create problems, you solve problems, the opposition gives you things to think about and I think also we made them adjust to us. Of course we had to adjust to them, because they are a unique team, but I thought we did that really well. We put a really big shift down and they worked hard. Normally you see Leeds in the second half running over teams, steamrollering teams, with their fitness and how strong they are. I thought my boys, or our boys, looked really strong, like athletes with desire and confidence. We just couldn't get the goal, unfortunately.”

“It is hard to concede when the ball is in their half. We did well today, I thought we were assured with the ball as well – Victor, Harry, Dean, Luke and Aaron. When it is one against one, the times when they win the ball and break forward, it is exciting. I am disappointed we didn't get three points, but I am very pleased with the performance.”

“Of course you’re disappointed that we don’t get the three points, but I think the boys know they put a shift down. We really have a lot of respect for the way Leeds play, and we know the results that they’ve had lately. So this is not something we’re going to look back on as derailing our season. Definitely not.”

Ole is happy with being 24 games away from home unbeaten

“Let's keep it going, because we have got important games coming up and hopefully we can carry on with this form. We are looking forward to the [Europa League] semis. We have felt the disappointment too many times in semis and we are looking forward to attacking these games. They are challenges for us and great tests for the group.”

You can be one of the reds who helps Red News keep the fanzine alive !!!

        Pledge and support at https://fundrazr.com/rednews2021

        Dear Red,

We hope you are ok amidst all this.

You have kindly supported our independent fanzine and fan culture in the recent past - and we are wondering if you might be able to do so again now, during a period where we haven't been able to sell at a game now for 13 months and where without this campaign support, the future of RedNews is at risk.

Today is the 34th anniversary upon which we received our very first print run of the mag; I can remember the excitement of seeing that small box, and still get a buzz when each new mag still arrives now! We're sending our loyal readers this appeal today before the campaign officially launches on the 34th anniversary of selling, on Tuesday - time flies and all that! We hope you can help give the campaign a really positive opening before it's announced everywhere.

This year our Target = 334 Reds signing up! By July 31st 2021.

        Pledge and support at https://fundrazr.com/rednews2021

If you believe in fanzines + RN, please do support if you can.

Behind closed doors has destroyed match day sales of Utd's first fanzine.

We need to reach target for the fanzine to survive. Support us or lose us.

        100% independent, 100% unofficial.

An independent fanzine which passionately believes in MUFC fan culture and giving YOU a voice. Fanzines are important to us. And, we feel, important to you as it provides a different voice - yours - away from the mainstream and official mass. We want to remain strong, especially in difficult times like these - and with your support we will keep printing.

We know there is a lot going on, and a lot for readers to be dealing with at the moment - so we're asking for your support right now only if you are in a position to give it. And we hope you and yours are all ok.

For the fanzine, it's undoubtedly our biggest and most important appeal/sub campaign, one that decides if we will be here in the next 12 months - we haven't sold at a game in over a year, and whilst we now have hope of some kind of a return, we still remain fearful that a full Old Trafford might be some time away. The impact on RedNews has been dramatic. This sub campaign guarantees Red News publishes for the next season ahead.

We've carried on printing since last March, but a significant downturn in orders have reflected the difficult times. If we don't make target, we might not be able to continue; fanzine, podcasts, etc.

We want to carry on printing for 2021/22 - and with your support we can.

We're having to think a bit ahead - so we've made the decision to keep printing double mags next season (21/22). So you won't miss out on content, this will now be six big double issues for a sub (at 72 pages each), meaning, in terms of content, it's 12 mags of the old format for your yearly sub. We also hope to provide a unique subscribers gift if we reach the summer sub campaign target.

We have never needed your support as subscribers as much as now - so if you can pledge a sub, be it print or pdf, you are helping to keep RedNews going.

        Pledge and support at https://fundrazr.com/rednews2021

We still believe the terraces of Old Trafford and its culture are a little bit stronger when Red News is around, and that our fanzine still provides a strong voice, and a different take on supporting MUFC that is worth preserving. We believe we continue to offer a unique window onto United. We are passionate about our club. And we show it. You might agree, or disagree with some of the content. That's healthy. That's the point of a fanzine. It's not just one set view, but a mix of different voices offering strong, important views on our club. And then try to have a laugh at it all.

So on our 34th anniversary we are again opening up our new advanced annual subscription campaign until July 31st - and the target will be 334 Reds signing up. Last year you kindly helped us break the 380 mark. Please support if you can.

Take care, and thank you for continuing to keep OUR voice alive.

        Barney

        Pledge and support at https://fundrazr.com/rednews2021

And if you aren't in a position to subscribe now but want to help RedNews - you can always order a single copy of our latest fanzine available at https://rednews.bigcartel.com/produc...sue-march-2021

For info; the subs taken out now will start from RedNews284/285 which will publish in August - unless you tell us otherwise. Our May double issue 282/283 will conclude the sub campaign from 2020/21 - so if you are a current subscriber and subscribe now we will just add this onto the existing one and your new sub would start from next season. If you are a new subscriber for the first time, the sub will start from August, unless you tell us otherwise... But we can accommodate any request, of course!

We do not have an automatic subscription function, so rely on you renewing, thanks!

Any questions whatsoever, let us know.

And, just, thank you. And please take care.

        Glory Glory Man United!

        Pledge and support at https://fundrazr.com/rednews2021

Your contact email addresses will remain private
We will NEVER share them with other people or third parties.
And this is the last time we will email you about this campaign - unless you contact us - though we obviously really hope you'll sign up and pledge.
        Take care Reds.

Ole now trusts the way MUFC play

“We have taken baby steps in the way we've played,”

“The way we trained, the fitness and the coaches' work being done on the training ground. It's been planned and we have been able to put layer by layer by layer, as I've said.

“Now I feel very confident going into every game, trusting our way of playing. That is a big thing for us. We know, whoever we play against, we have our own way of dealing with the opposition.

“Of course, there are a couple of little tweaks here and there but, with the addition of one or two, we'll keep on strengthening the squad and keeping training hard. In the second half, I have got to say I have not seem many teams dominate Leeds as much as we did.

Luke Shaw talks about facing a different Leeds to the one earlier in the season

“I think they changed the way they play a little bit,”

“I think when they came to Old Trafford, they were pressing much more higher, more aggressive and I think maybe they knew they played into our hands last time, so they were a bit more cautious this time. But I still feel like we should have won the game.”

Luke Shaw looks forward to Thursday in the Europa League, after frustrations v Leeds

“A Man United side like us, we need to be winning today,”

“That split second, that quality... I think we got that in abundance in our team. We should be taking the chances that we had today. We have to move on. It’s a very important game on Thursday that we need to win. That's the main focus now.”

The AS Roma manager talks about how he wants his team to play v MUFC

“This semi-final with Manchester United is very important and I must stay entirely focused on a game that is too important for us,"

“It’s true that Manchester United are very dangerous on the counter-attack, but we must realise it’ll be really difficult if we go to Manchester and just defend.

“We need to keep the ball and make it difficult for them. The team must show character and not sit too deep.”

Steve Archibald, an ex-Spurs player, doesn't think MUFC is a step up from Spurs #Kane

"Harry's definitely one of the top strikers in the land,"

"I like the way he scores goals, a lot of times out of nothing. He is a really valuable asset. But my first club was Clyde, a tiny club and everyone expects you to move. And Harry's club is not a club like Aberdeen.

"His first club is Spurs, it's a bigger situation for him. Players want to be satisfied, want to push on but Harry's already at a big club with a wonderful stadium. You don't know what the future is, as they've changed manager.

"Do I have sympathy for him? Of course I do. He's been there for a few years and sometimes you get stale as well and stuck in a rut. And it depends what type of football you're playing and, under Jose Mourinho, there were a lot of complaints. I suppose it will be important who the next manager is, what the project is and whether he has faith in it.

"I would imagine his next step will be a big European club, although there's lot of interest in the UK. Spurs are as big as any club in England and, going to Manchester United right now, though financially the biggest club in world football, wouldn't be a big step up, if any. They're on a par. If he wants to step up, it has to be European football.'

Louis Saha wants MUFC to keep Cavani, and he explains why he thinks that

“It will depend on the transfer strategy. But definitely I was a big advocate for Cavani. He brings the fire, he’s the model for high pressure and constant mobility, and he has the experience to know where he has to be in the box.

“All those things are important and were missing in certain games. I think he managed to help certain players like Rashford, Greenwood and Martial who have benefitted from seeing those types of performance.”
