Peter Crouch points out how Glazers signing Sancho isn't enough for us to like them

“It’s the summer transfer window and that means Manchester United will be linked with some of the biggest names on the planet.

“This year it’s Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho and Eduardo Camavinga. They’ve got loads of cash to spend and it looks like they might actually use it this time.

“Sancho seems to be a done deal from Borussia Dortmund for £73m, but big-money transfers won’t change United fans’ perception of the Glazer family.

“The owners’ problems are too deep-rooted to be solved just by spending a few quid. They cannot buy the fans’ happiness.

“Look, it’s a positive step and I think United fans will love Sancho, but the damage has been done over the years and looks impossible to rebuild.

“They’ve spent loads of money on players before, but recruitment has been poor. How many average centre backs do they have?

“‘Edinson Cavani is class but he’s not a long-term solution. Their entire way of running the club is what angers United fans.”

United fans arrested as the Police are still following up on the protests at Old Trafford from May

Officers have made four further arrests following the protests before the Manchester United v Liverpool match that was scheduled for 2 May 2021.

A series of warrants were executed earlier today (1 July 2021) in Manchester city centre, Eccles, Bury and Wallasey, Merseyside.

Three men, aged 24, 27 and 55, remain in custody for questioning on suspicion of violent disorder, while a fourth, aged 23, has been arrested for burglary and a public order offence.

All four are believed to have been part of a large group that forced their way into the Old Trafford football ground on 2 May.

A 28-year-old man has previously pleaded guilty to a public order offence and received a three-year football banning order, while a 25-year-old man has been released under investigation on suspicion of violent disorder and section 18 assault.

There were planned demonstrations at Old Trafford and outside the Lowry Hotel, where the players were staying prior to the match that had been due to kick off at 4.30pm. The game eventually took place at a later date.

Several thousand people gathered at the two locations and approximately 200 broke into Old Trafford.

Detective Inspector Andy Fallows, of GMP's Major Incident Team, said: "The level of violence, against GMP officers and Manchester United staff, as well as the damage to the stadium, was totally unacceptable.

"On the day, the demonstration escalated significantly, with a small but sizeable portion of those demonstrating, around 200, breaking into the ground to demonstrate on the pitch.

"Incidents of violence against the police, stewards and Manchester United employees escalated but were quickly contained.

"Unfortunately, several police officers were struck with projectiles from the crowd, one officer suffering a significant facial injury.

"We are continuing to review evidence from the day and are committed to identifying and prosecuting those involved.

Denis Irwin likes the look of Sancho

        "He's a fantastic player,"

"I mean you look at the Bundesliga last year and the amount of goals and assists he made for Borussia Dortmund. He's got good experience, even though he's a young lad, as Dortmund are a big team with big support, they've got great support there.

“It's great that he comes in and knows the Premier League and knows the surroundings in England. He should be able to slot in straight away and I am really looking forward to watching him play.

"He gives Ole more options, definitely more competition, as he's a quality player. We've not seen much of him at the Euros, as of yet, but he is very, very clever. He has great pace as well and an eye for goal.

“I think, to play in a front-three, you've got to have an eye for goal and he'll certainly add to that. He can play in a number of positions but he often plays in a front-three on the right for Dortmund.

“As I said, if you're going to play in a front-three, you have got to have the ability to score goals. You can't rely on the centre-forward all the time. He brings that and brings excitement. He gets the ball, is quick and direct, and I'm really looking forward to that. I really am."

Denis Irwin is impressed by Luke Shaw for England

“He's been brilliant as we've seen this season,”

“I think he was in with Bruno [Fernandes] for Player of the Year. Bruno got it, as you would expect with the contribution he made, but I think Luke has had a fantastic year and has brought that confidence into the Euros.

“I know he didn't play in the first game [against Croatia], but he had a huge impact the other night [against Germany], particularly in the second half where he was involved in the two goals.

“Him and Harry [Maguire] have done really, really well. England have not conceded a goal yet, the keeper looks strong, and I thought the other night, besides the [Thomas] Muller chance, there weren't many chances given up. And they've looked very solid, England, and Luke and Harry have been a big part of that.”

“It's been well documented, his ups and down at United,”

“The injuries he had and the way he's had to come back from that.

“The challenges he had in the full-back department, of Brandon [Williams] coming in and then [Alex] Telles coming and challenging him, which spurred him on. But you can see he's playing with bagfuls of confidence – he's great going forward. And it's great to see the two of them [Maguire and Shaw] doing very well.”
