Adidas have signed up to Mata's Common Goal pledge

Adidas will pledge 1% of global net sales from footballs to Common Goal until 2023.

    Mata said this about it

“It’s a nice day for me, being part of the adidas family for so many years now and, of course, being with the Common Goal family since the beginning, it’s a proud day,”

“To bring those two families together in order to help through football is great.

“To use the platforms they both have, Common Goal and adidas, to merge and work together to making a more equal society, especially helping the under-privileged through the sport we love, it’s a nice day for me. And I’m very happy and it’s very good. Hopefully, it’s only the beginning of a long-lasting relationship.”

Mata says other clubs were interested in signing him

“Of course, because I was a free agent at the end of my contract and, as is normal in the football world, you receive some calls from different clubs and think about maybe potential new stages in your career but, on the other hand, the feeling of being at this club and especially because of how last season went, probably the most difficult season in my life, it didn’t feel natural to me to leave that way.

MUFC sign partnership with Wayne Rooney's Foundation

Manchester United Foundation has joined forces with the Wayne Rooney Foundation to provide an inclusion programme for young people of all abilities.

Following Wayne Rooney’s testimonial match in 2016, he formed his Foundation and committed to support four charities, including Manchester United Foundation.Funding from the former Manchester United and England captain’s charity has enabled MU Foundation to launch the ‘Rooney’s Inclusive Reds’ programme – a 10-week course that is delivered across local schools, enabling disabled and non-disabled participants to play together and learn from each other on a level playing field.

Postponed due to lockdown in 2020, Manchester United Foundation is now officially launching the partnership with the Wayne Rooney Foundation, by delivering Rooney’s Inclusive Reds in a two-day event of Euros-themed activations, hosted at the Manchester United training ground in Carrington. Participating schools from across Greater Manchester took part in various football challenges to celebrate inclusivity across the programme.

Wayne Rooney, who was a long-standing supporter of the Foundation during his time at Manchester United, said: “I am delighted that my charity has partnered with Manchester United Foundation and we are able to support an inclusion programme specifically for young people, helping to break down barriers between those with and without disabilities. It is a programme I look forward to seeing in action and am sure it will have a positive impact on all involved.”

Matt Pilkington, disability and inclusion coordinator for Manchester United Foundation, said: “The programme has been brilliant for young people across Greater Manchester; it has given participants the opportunity to play at a level which is best suited to them and allowed them to feel comfortable within that environment. The impact of the programme has already been amazing with participants wanting to continue playing football outside of the school setting.”In addition to the 10-week programme, Rooney’s Inclusive Reds has given participants the opportunity to complete the FA Playmaker qualification with over 30 young people achieving the certificate. A health and wellbeing programme was also delivered to partnering secondary schools during the last academic year, promoting healthy food choices and the importance of physical activity.

Paul Parker criticises Rashford playing through injury

"Marcus Rashford was very lucky to start so many games last season, he was really very poor,"

"I think there was a little bit of sentiment coming into it that he shouldn’t have been playing. I kept hearing that he’s injured, he’s carrying this injury – a load of rubbish.

"Today’s footballers don’t have to carry any injuries. During my time, yes, because we needed that to make up our wages.

"And we were worried that if we missed a game through injury then somebody else would come in and we wouldn’t get back in if the team did well, but not in today’s world.

"I don’t really want to hear about him carrying injuries. If he was carrying injuries, the player would’ve stopped or the manager wouldn’t play him because the squads are bigger now.

"So he has to prove that he can play regularly for Manchester United because he was poor. Mason Greenwood finished the season brilliantly so he’ll be disappointed if he doesn’t start the season.

"He needs a decent pre-season as such, as he mostly will get now from not going to the Euros."

Andy Cole gives his thoughts on MUFC next season

"I don't know what to expect from United next season,"

"Naturally, progression is the way forward but can they compete to win the league against Manchester City, obviously?

“It's going to take time but it all depends which players are brought in really. We'll just have to wait and see. To win the league, United are going to have to do really well to pick up the points they lost disappointedly last season.

“And let's see more free-flowing football and continue getting back to how United used to play.

“It's been proved this tournament that Portugal won it five years ago on the counter-attack but, this year, they tried the same and it catches you out in the end.

“United need to keep playing more galvanising football, create more chances and score more goals; then you never know what can happen.

“I think every team should look at the way the Euros have gone and the football that's been played, even by the so-called lesser nations. It's been a really good tournament.”

"The majority of the games have been open,"

"It's why we love football. We've not seen any drab games or had fall-asleep time! All the games have been exciting and that's what we want from the Euros. The players may be tired but, when you come to a major tournament, you find something because it is a major tournament.

“I will take nothing away from what they've given us. Even VAR works and is half-decent in this tournament! The refs have been brilliant too. It's been really good."
