“The best thing Man United can do is to appoint someone who has won trophies at the level where Man United have been playing all these years.
“With respect to David Moyes, he was a good manager and it’s not nice to see him lose his job, but appointing Van Gaal would be a better choice in terms of his qualifications and the CV he has.
“This man has won a trophy at every club he has worked. He has won league titles in Holland, he has won the Champions League with Ajax, he has won the Super Cup with Ajax, he has won the league in Spain, he has won three Bundesliga titles and so on and so on. His CV is endless. For me, it is guaranteed success for Manchester United."
“He is a man of discipline but if you buy into what he is selling you and what he is teaching you, you are almost guaranteed to succeed,” continued Boateng, who won four caps for his country.
“This is a man that will change the whole formation of the club. He will even try and get the youth and reserves all to play the same system as the first team and he likes to give youth players a chance.
“He is a top-class manager, but he has also brought through many talented players that we didn’t know before, like Jari Litmanen, like Patrick Kluivert, like Marc Overmars. He is a tremendous coach to develop players."
