UEFA executive committee member David Gill (who it is reported stormed out of a FIFA meeting)
“From our perspective we were surprised that he declared his candidacy because in 2011 he was very clear that it was his final four years. My personal view is he should have stayed with his comment back in 2011. I think he has done some good work over the years. Yes he is looking at the governance structures and what needs to be done going forward. However, you can change the structure but unless you have the right people within it, the structure is irrelevant. FIFA is the over-arching body in world football and needs to have a good relationship with all the confederations. What we would like to see is a full and frank open debate around the process going forward."
"The statement made by Mr Blatter yesterday was from out point of view totally incorrect. This was about the issue raised quite rightly in the British media which should be addressed by the world governing body and to try and portray it as racist or a discriminatory attack is totally unacceptable."
