    Q. Darren, given what’s happened to yourself last season; your comeback, missing last pre-season, how big a summer has this been for you and how big a pre-season is this for you and also for the season coming in terms of other players, new players, coming in your position as well?

DF: “I think you’ll hear players talk about how important pre-season is, and I’ve not been in a position to do one for about 3 years, so I;m dead excited by it because it almost puts you back to a level playing field with everyone, you can start the season on the same time as everyone else rather than playing catch up all season, which can be difficult, so it is the perfect ideal scenario for me so I’m really looking forward to it, try and build up my fitness pace as best as I can, knowing that a big part of my game is based on that, I think that will be vital for me for the season coming ahead and as I said we’re all in the same position, we’ve got to impress the new manager, and I’m no different so sooner the games come around and every opportunity you get you’ve got to show that you are good enough, and you are capable of being in his plans for the rest of the season and I think all the players are looking at it that way, it’s a fresh start, and go and impress him as soon as possible and get your name in the team and get yourself in the squad for the next season because I think it’s going to be exciting times again.”

    Q. Is that your biggest personal challenge do you think?

DF: “It’s a challenge, but football is a challenge, if you look at careers, there’s ups and downs, it’s a great challenge for me, I love the club, I’ve been here my whole career, been here since I was 15 and had a number of seasons in the first team, yeah there’s been disappointments in terms of personal health and disappointing seasons like last year but I think a bright future is ahead and it’s easy talking about it, you’ve got to go out there and do it and that’s what I’m going to try and do.”
