What’s he has been up to in his time back at MUFC
“I’m here normally to do my coaching badges but I’ve been everywhere. I’ve been around and, you know, what a great feeling to come back home. I love this place and, to see the same people, from the chef to the cleaner, is just amazing, it really is. I’ve been here five days and will go back on Saturday and it is just a pleasure. You are at home and I feel blessed, very blessed.”

“I’ve been actually doing my coaching badges with the Under-18s and working with Neil [Ryan] and Colin [Little] and all the staff, but I’ve been everywhere. I want to say to my wife: ‘Manchester United will be my wife for two weeks’. So that’s why I’ve been everywhere. I’ve been with the Under-16s and took charge of a training session, with the Under-18s, Under-23s, first team and the women’s game last night. So I’ve been everywhere. I love this club.I’ve got passion for this club and that’s why, when I get a chance to speak with anyone, I want to make sure when I leave this place, I will come back definitely, I want them to understand the message and what it represents. The value to play for Manchester United, to be humble and respectful but actually dying on the pitch. It doesn’t matter the age or [if it's] women’s football, it’s having the same message with everyone. I think we need to go back to the top, you know, for the future and the new generation, it’s not only about the first team. It’s why I’m really open to do everything here, to do my coaching badges but actually spend time with everyone because United is like my family.”

    He backs Ole as manager
“I was really happy. You know why? Because I always say, to coach United, you need to understand the club and respect the value of the club. I don’t want to criticise any manager who was here before Ole but I just feel like, when I came into the dressing room, you see people are smiling and more positive. We are aware of our weaknesses but we are working hard. It is easy outside to criticise. When you’re inside and see things, I think the future will be bright. I’m really confident. I love Ole. I have a little story about Ole. When we were subs in one game, I started to talk to Ole and he said: ‘Patrice, I’m focused on watching the game’. It’s a good message for when people are sub – sometimes you are going to make a difference but you need to watch the game. Ole was always watching the game so, when he was going to come on, he would destroy the centre-back because he knows every weakness. He is so humble. I was so pleased and that’s why I’m behind him until the end. I think we all need to help him – we should never let Ole down. Until the end, I will be behind him”

“He gave me my first goal in the Champions League. I remember I came in and was right-back and he passed me the ball to give me an assist for my first goal in the Champions League. It was just great. Ole is so clever. He is the one to tell me, when I go against the goalkeeper, he always liked to nutmeg him and stuff like that. He’s so clever and so professional. I’ve got that story that, when I received a knock, I was on the massage table and the doc said: ‘Patrice, it’s better you don’t train as we play tomorrow. We don’t want you to receive a knock’. It was a Friday and Paul Scholes was limping but wearing his boots and going outside. After that, Ryan Giggs was stretching his back, then Gary Neville. I was talking to myself – it’s impossible, it's like these 'dinosaurs' [laughs] are going outside to train and me staying like a diva. I put on my boots and got off the bed. The doc said: ‘Patrice, no you can’t train’ but I said I’m going to train. I got up and I trained and didn’t receive any knocks and played on the Saturday. That’s why I tell you examples like this”

    The challenge of West Ham
“West Ham is a good club and I think Manuel Pellegrini is doing a great job,”

“They will go for it. I remember I was still playing for West Ham and they played against United. During the week, actually all the players were so focused in training and not one of them was thinking they were going to lose against United. ”

“They were like we are going to beat them and win against United. I was a West Ham player but a United fan and I was a little bit hurt to say: ‘Wow, my club is getting really down’, if they don’t think even one per cent they are going to lose that game. The problem is they won that game 3-1, West Ham, so I was happy but really upset. Wow, we need to fix my club’ and it’s why we are Manchester United.”

“We played against Leicester and many people said it was going to be a tough game because they’re in form but it’s what I’m talking about. Where is the respect for Manchester United? I want people to fear us again and people have to go out and play better and win the games. ”

”So I know it’s not easy going to West Ham, it’s a tough place, but we have to make sure, when the players step on the pitch, we are united. I want that arrogance to come back, you know. Even if it’s not easy, people have to understand we are Manchester United. So I’m upset when I hear people talking about United as if we are nothing. It’s killing me.“

“We need to win, no matter,”

“Actually, I want to win games until everyone is ready as we’ve got a lot of injuries but we need to win games, no matter what. I know some people complained we didn’t play great against Leicester but we got the three points last weekend. ”

”It’s what we have to do. Going on that pitch, we have to get three points. Trust me, when the full squad is back, we’re going to have some better days for us.“

    Lindelof

    On his time at MUFC
“It’s been good. I think I’ve developed as a player a lot and also as a person so it’s been a good few years for me. I’ve learnt a lot and hopefully I can learn even more in the future as well.”

“I think I’ve matured a bit more in my way of playing and upped my game a little bit more. Also, the things that I’m good at I’m even better now than I was before. Then, as a person, the club have helped me a lot, as have the players, and I think I’m a better person now.”

“I hope [I can develop] a lot, I want to be even better and I want to help the team win trophies and games. I want to improve and be even better than I am today, that’s my main goal, and I know I have to work very hard to achieve that. I think I’m at the right club to do that.”

“Of course my biggest goal is to win trophies. As a player for this club it should always be your goal to win trophies, so that’s my main objective and goal. Right now we have to improve every day and you have to work hard to achieve that.”

    On Ole

“He’s very important. He’s been great since he arrived at the club and I think we’re on a good path and I think the future looks good for us. We need to keep working hard and listen to all the coaching staff and hopefully we can do good things together.”

    On playing with Maguire

“It’s been good. We’ve only had a few games together so every game we can play together it’s a good thing for us because with a partnership you need to play games to get to know each other more and more. If we can play together more and more hopefully we can become even better.”

“I think he’s a great player and we help each other a lot on the pitch. You have to do that because as centre-backs you need to know that your partner has your back and he needs to think the same from me.”

De Gea talks about West Ham

“I believe they have a decent side with some good players who are important to them,”

“They are on the up at the moment, but we still have bad memories from last season, so we have to be much more switched on right from the off than we were then.

“There are three very important points at stake for us to remain up there near the top, and also for the younger lads to keep gaining in confidence. We also want to show that’s what we’re here for, going away to difficult grounds and going there for the three points.”

      De Gea on MUFC fans

“They are vitally important to us,”

“Our fans that follow us away from home are just incredible. Sometimes it’s just like we are playing at home in those away fixtures!

“It’s amazing… it helps us all tremendously down there on the pitch, we can always feel the warmth from our fans and that is hugely important to us.”

De Gea on facing Spain’s Pablo Fornals who plays for West Ham

“I know him from the national team, we’ve been called up together in the same squad once or twice,”

“He’s a quality player and I think he can contribute very well for West Ham. He really showed what he could do at Villarreal and he has a lot of talent and he’s a top player.”

        Ole on MUFC injuries

        “Luke [Shaw] won’t be ready,”

Pogba and Martial … “Not really, no. They have not been training yet.

Daniel James … “I don’t know, he’s not trained for the past few days. Hopefully he will, but we're not sure. We will have a recovery day tomorrow [Friday] and see on Saturday.”

“Andreas and Aaron trained today [Thursday] so they should be ready and the rest of them were on the bench.”

Ole is asked if is concerned about facing West Ham

“Why should we as coaches be concerned? We are looking forward to things. We are looking for solutions,”

“No, I am never concerned about anything really. I don’t walk around and worry about things, not at all,”

“I am looking at what we can do to improve. I have never been a worrier. “I think we should have won at Southampton, we should have won at Wolverhampton. Both of them should have been wins”

“[Wherever you play], it is still the same size green pitch with white lines. Sometimes you have to block out the mental part and play the game as you would do in the park.”

Ole is asked if West Ham could “challenge the top of the league in the future”

“Given the way they played against us last season and from what I have seen this year, why not?”

“Last time we were lucky to beat them and it will be a good test. But we have had two clean sheets in a row now and that will give the defenders confidence. “If we can keep a clean sheet it will be easier for our strikers, who will know we don’t have to score twos, threes and fours all the time.”

Ole talks about Rashford and scoring goals

        “He is getting the chances,”

“Of course he could have had three [goals against Astana] but the keeper made a few fantastic saves. I don’t worry about that.”

“We are working every single day in training with Marcus and he wants to improve and wants to be better.”

“He could have finished with his left foot instead of his right [on one occasion]. It was just one of those days. Their keeper was excellent.”

“All our goals this season have come from our forwards, from Marcus, Anthony [Martial] and Dan James, so I am sure he [Marcus] will chip in with many, many goals.”

“Marcus is still young. He’ll improve. You won’t hit your peak as a striker until 26 or 27. He is still learning what finishes to make in different circumstances.”

“Today's forwards are different to the old traditional number nines. There are not many of them left.”

“Marcus can play in all three positions, Anthony can. There are four positions in fact - right, left, up front on his own and as a number ten. Mason can [do that] too. None of them are pinpointed to one position. You will see them all rotate around.”

West Ham manager talks about the MUFC game

“We know that we have a very strong team in front of us, now we have a good test against United and we will try to beat them

“It’s the only way to try to arrive in the first six positions of the table, demonstrating every game that you are able to do it.”

“At this moment when you have played just five games and you have eight points, you have the same points as Arsenal, as Manchester United, Tottenham, Chelsea, so we are demonstrating that.

“But you must extend those five games for the complete season. (If) you are able to do it in five, why are you not able to do it in 38?

“That’s why I think we must not start any future game thinking that ‘oh we beat Manchester United last season, now we are in a good moment’ – we must demonstrate again because football changes in two or three days.”

“We are going to try from the beginning, from the first minute of the game,”

“They continue to be a big team, good players, with players that make a difference, so we must be very concentrated in our defending.

“Every game or every points that you don’t lose at home is better for you. You see the statistics for all the teams, the most amount of points you have are at home.

“We are doing well playing away, but we need to be a strong team playing in our stadium.”

              Ole on the MUFC youngsters

"You learn quite a lot when playing the youngsters,"

"You want them to go out and express themselves, to go out and perform so that have a platform to build on. I thought it paid off (against Astana).

"I understand that some of the boys, sometimes they can feel the heat, but I thought they were excellent. Of course we must protect them, find the right moment to put them in. Give them guidance behind closed doors.

"Social media and the media these days is so different. We will try to help and guide them as much as we can. We know the other side of how it was back in the 70s and 80s, it is different now. We have a lot of background support here.

"They're almost ready (to play in the Premier League). That's why they're with us, why they're training with us and they have done well in training.

"The young boys now - you will see them enough. You will see them in the Europa League, the FA Cup the Carabao Cup and maybe a little bit in the Premier League.

"If we do well in the Europa League we have a chance to win it. In the early stages you can take a few chances, take a few risks, make some subs and give the youngsters a chance.

"I think it's about time they had some exposure, and see if they are ready to play in the Premier League."

Ole on building for the future, from a solid foundation

"David de Gea has been unbelievable for us in the years he has been here,"

"We signed Harry Maguire in the summer, a massive signing. Victor Lindelof signed a new contract.

"Aaron Wan-Bissaka is young and up-and-coming. Luke Shaw is young. Axel Tuanzebe is young - we have something to build on there. The foundations are being built from the back.

"We know we haven't created enough going forward but when we have David in goal sometimes 1-0 is enough for us.

"I want to be a part of us going back to where we used to be, but of course the Premier League is now a different animal. Manchester City and Liverpool last season were fantastic and we are in the starting phase of a new team.

"Many players have been and gone and now there is some youngsters coming in. We are one or two players light at the moment because of injuries but that's an opportunity for the kids to play and to see if I can get the best out of them."
