  • MUFC news 11th October 2019

Well today sees "confirmation" that MUFC have a plan for developing the squad strength. A very specific number has been quoted in a specific time period - 8 players in the next two summer transfer windows.

"confirmation" may be too strong a description when the reality is a few stories have appeared in the press which suggest somebody at United has been telling them it will be okay at the club, money will be invested and no panic here. The mention of summer transfers suggest this briefing means not to expect any incomings in January, which is a frankly laughable position ... but don't worry next summer it will mostly be sorted.

    Utter bullshit

... interestingly, the "plan for transfers" story appears on the same day that news appears that our shirt sponsors won't be continuing the sponsorship as they don't feel they have got a good deal - particularly since the decline of MUFC on the pitch (... but Ed said pitch performance doesn't affect commercial performance?!)

you can bet your life they will be working harder to replace that sponsor than they did replacing Lukaku and the rest who left this summer.

Mata is hoping Martial lives up to his talents

‘I hope it’s really big. He is an incredibly talented player,’

‘You can see that since the moment he arrived to the club in his first game against Liverpool.

‘In every training session, the way he treats the ball, the way he takes on people, the way he can win a game by himself.

‘I love this kind of player with such big talent and I love to play with them.

‘He is a very, very good player. He is still young and hopefully he has an incredible career ahead of him.’

Van der Sar has love in his heart for MUFC

“Besides my family, my wife and kids and everything I have two loves in my life.

“That’s Ajax, who gave me the opportunity to develop, they scouted me, they gave me the chance to shine in the world of football.

“And the last club of my career, also gave me a lot of attention, recognition and everything, developed at a later stage.

“And of course I’d be interested, interested in a position.

“But I need to learn a little more here [at Ajax], develop myself further and of course eventually let’s see what the future brings.

“United is a fantastic club, there’s a great following all over the world. Everybody wants to play for them and eventually, work for them.”

The club is adamant it will continue to replace any damaged or worn out seats. Wow. I've changed my mind about the Glazers.

Exactly, plus work needed for VAR as well as legal obligations to improve disabled supporters - and that's it?

The Glazers have already distributed funds to refurbish the Salford 2, The Captains Lounge, 100 Club and International Suite at Old Trafford.
                      Sorted!

When you mentioned VAR I assumed it meant we were getting big screens.

Fellaini shares his views on MUFC

“They brought in one of the best managers in the world in Jose Mourinho, he wanted to build a team and they sacked him. It's not easy to build a team in that time, you need more than two years.

"I don't know what they will do with Solskjaer but, for me, to win things and to improve, you need time. Mourinho, for the first season, he did amazingly, he improved the team, won things. Ok, the second season was a bit more difficult, but he tried, you know, and did his best to help the team. Then they decided to sack him.

"For me, yes [United were too hasty in sacking Mourinho] because a manager like that comes and he needs a lot of players to implement his own philosophy. He wanted to build his team and after two years, or two years and a half, they decided to sack him because the results were not there."

"They brought in Moyes, they didn't give him time. They brought in Van Gaal, they gave him two years and we started to do some things, he won the cup, but after that they sacked the manager because they want to win quickly, I think. A manager like Van Gaal tactically is very strong and has a lot of experience and they sacked him,"

"But when you look to build a team you need time, not change a manager every two years, every year. If the manager doesn't do well for four or five games, they want to sack him.

"Manchester United won everything for years with Sir Alex Ferguson, so for someone else to come and do what he did is not that easy. They had a team and a strong base. It's not easy for someone to come and do like Sir Alex Ferguson. People and supporters of Manchester United want that, but football has changed, the mentality of players has changed."

"You see some players go straight into the dressing room after games and go straight onto social media, It's wrong. Now you have a new manager who wanted young players and they will be up and down, up and down; that's football, that's what happens with young players.

"Of course you can't play with just young players, you need a mix. To win games, to win titles, to win big games you need experience. Of course you can win with young players, but not every game."

This piece from an article about Ed says it all:

An early story reveals the gap that required bridging. When Everton wanted to sign Tom Cleverley, their manager Roberto Martinez told his board to offer no more than £5.5 million as the midfielder’s contract was up at the end of the season. Woodward turned down the advances as he felt the offer came late and was derisory. As it turned out, Aston Villa — who had previously struck a deal with United before Everton had interveded — took him on loan, very late on deadline day, United paid the majority of his wages and then Everton signed him for nothing when his contract was up.
