[33] Giggs on a memorable night for him, because of the United youngsters
    Posted on 07/05/2014 19:39:46 GMT
“Obviously I managed to get on the pitch but I think the main memory will be the youngsters coming on and doing so well. Manchester United always give young players a chance and it’s up to them to take it. They certainly did that tonight.

“I wasn’t happy with Saturday’s result [against Sunderland] and the performance. I wasn’t angry, I was just gutted after doing so well the week before. I just wanted to freshen things up a bit. The fans recognise young players and will give them a chance if they make a mistake and they took their chance.

"Michael Keane, Tom and James have been at the club since they were nine and Adnan Januzaj since he was 16. It was brilliant to see and they deserve all the plaudits.

[32] Giggs expected James Wilson to do well and wanted to help him by sticking a big lad up there with him
    Posted on 07/05/2014 19:34:32 GMT
    "James didn’t surprise me,"

"I wanted to play Marouane Fellaini up with him to add a bit of presence and take the pressure off him a little bit. It worked well, they linked up for the first goal and it was great to see James score the two goals."

[31] Giggs on bringing on Vidic earlier than he planned
    Posted on 07/05/2014 19:31:19 GMT
"He played in the last two games so I was only intending to bring him on in the last 10 or 15 minutes,"

"He came on earlier than we expected because of Jonah’s injury but he didn’t put a foot wrong like he’s done over the last eight years. He’s been a brilliant player for us and a brilliant defender."

27] James Wilson tries to put into words what its like to play in front of a proper Old Trafford crowd Posted on 07/05/2014 18:49:18 GMT
“It was a great feeling, you can’t compare it to anything else,”

”The first goal was just sheer euphoria and then the second was just a great experience. The ground is a lot different without 75,000 people, but just to play here even in front of a small crowd for the Under-21s is still a great experience to play on such a ground. With all the fans here tonight it was even better.”

[26] James Wilson, he of the dream debut, feels he coped physically and is scoring at every new level he plays #goodsigns
    Posted on 07/05/2014 18:48:23 GMT
“I feel like I can deal with the physicality and pace of the game. I just need to try to get as many games as possible under my belt for the experience. If you’re getting on in the club, you have to be progressing so obviously scoring for every age group is a good sign. I’ve got where I am now but I have to kick on.”

[22] The lad done good ... a former coach of Tom Lawrence on what he was like as a lad and how he got on last night
    Posted on 07/05/2014 18:27:21 GMT
Cledwyn Ashford, who coached Tom for Flintshire Schoolboys

“Not many players play two years running for Flintshire but he was one of those who did.

“He was a very quiet lad but he always had confidence on the ball. Tom had great skills, he loved to take people on and had pace to burn.

“You could tell he was going to go far and be a special player. He had the ability to make a difference.

“I’m so pleased for him, it’s a fantastic achievement for the lad. What a great honour for him to have one of the greatest players to play for Manchester United and Wales, who is also the manager, to have that faith in him.

“I thought he played extremely well and I knew he wouldn’t be fazed by it at all. I don’t think he’s far from a first team call-up for Wales either.”

[21] Unbelievable ... Meyler won't face an FA charge over that nasty stamp on Adnan ...
    Posted on 07/05/2014 18:24:15 GMT
just because the referee saw it and didn't take action at the time ... the rules allowing cases to be dealt with retrospectively require any incident to have not been seen by match officials

[17] David May on the importance of the yoof
    Posted on 07/05/2014 11:22:47 GMT
"There is young talent at the club, of course there is, but I feel they do also need to bring in experienced players to bring United back to where they deserve and where they should be.

"The main thing is that United keep doing what they are doing, keep producing the young kids. Whether it's Van Gaal or whether it's someone else, United have a tradition of doing that.

"With Financial Fair Play coming into it, it's important that the youth players come in and contribute to the first team, as they have in the last few years."

[16] David May on Giggs the player
    Posted on 07/05/2014 11:22:18 GMT
"I think he is still good enough. There have been many games this season where he has been United's best player, even at the age of 40.

"Maybe the manager could pick and choose his games. Whatever happens, it would be a loss to the Premier League and Man United if Giggsy does decide to retire because he has been absolutely incredible over the years."

[8] Van Persie says "we'll be back"
    Posted on 07/05/2014 11:14:48 GMT
"It was important to end on a high,"

"Obviously we wanted to do a lot better during the campaign, but it wasn't meant to be. This was good though."

"I'm sure we will compete again next year. We'll be back, trust me, we will be back. Trust me. Save this interview!"

[7] Van Persie reviews his own season
    Posted on 07/05/2014 11:13:57 GMT
"A bit up and down, I wasn't fully fit and that's where everything starts for me. You need to get a full season in. You can miss a couple of games but not as many as I missed."

"I think I missed half the season. I am gutted about that. For next year I just want to stay fit, do well and compete again.

[5] After Meylor stamped on Adnan last night, Giggs calls the treatment dished out to Januzaj "a joke"
    Posted on 07/05/2014 11:11:57 GMT
    "It's a joke,"

"I didn't see the incident, but I have seen his leg.

"It is the second time it has happened to him this season and it's not great to see. It's terrible, his leg.

"He needs protecting, he is a brilliant player, he is exciting and the authorities need to stamp down on it, whether that can happen now but it was bad.

"I have not seen the stamp but I have seen his leg and it is bad. The cut goes from his knee to his ankle."

[3] Carrick wanted to "celebrate Vida" !
    Posted on 07/05/2014 11:08:11 GMT
"You want to win the game but, at the same time, you've got to celebrate Vida,"

"We have to celebrate the service he's given the club for so long, having achieved so much.

"He's a leader and one of the best defenders the club has had. It's sad that he's leaving because he'll be missed as he's a top player and an important part of the squad. Sometimes you've got to move on and we respect that.

"I'm sure he must have been touched by the reception he got from the crowd. He's a man of few words so I was a bit surprised to see him get on the microphone at the end.

"You could see he was touched and there was definitely some emotion there. He's got one game left but that was his last one at this special place. He'll be missed."
