“Obviously, Luke and Aaron have been excellent of late. They’ve really picked up their attacking game and started to fly forward and create chances which is really important for the team. We know how big an influence full-backs in the modern day have on the attacking side of the game, as well as the defensive side.

“First and foremost, they’re defenders for us and I’ve got to say they’ve been brilliant on that side of things. They don’t get beaten one-v-one which is really important, they’re stopping crosses and they’ve been defending the back-post really well.

“As a back-four, we’re working hard together. I have big demands on my full-backs, I am expecting them to fly forward but I also expect them to fly back as well.

“Luke has been great and Aaron was great at Arsenal last weekend and it’s really important that they keep up this form to help the team.”...

"In the Premier League you play against different types of strikers week in, week out so you know every striker is going to bring something different, and everyone has strengths and everyone has weaknesses,”

“I know Dom from our time with England and he’s very physical and a handful, and we’ll need to be right on our game to keep him quiet.

“If we manage to do that, it will be a big part for us in, hopefully, taking steps towards the victory.”...

United confirm plans to commemorate the Munich Air Disaster (and ask fans NOT to attend the ground)

Saturday marks the 63rd anniversary of the Munich Air Disaster. This year, given the ongoing restrictions, our remembrance activities to commemorate our darkest day will be a little different.

Due to the pandemic, we are unable to gather together for the traditional ceremony under the Munich memorial clock. However, we have safely pre-recorded a version of the service that will be broadcast on MUTV and across the club's digital media.

As ever, the special event is ‘for the fans, by the fans’. Munich58, who themselves are marking their own 20th anniversary this year, have again co-ordinated the service which will be led by Reverend John Boyers.

The first screening of the service will begin at 14:55 GMT on Saturday, and will consist of several prayers, poems and songs, including a rendition of The Flowers of Manchester. The names of those who lost their lives in the tragedy will be read out, prior to a minute’s silence at 15:04 GMT, which marks the time the fatal plane crash occurred 63 years ago.

Reverend John Boyers will lead the service, which has been recorded for fans to watch online this year.

To ensure that the stadium remains COVID-secure, we kindly ask fans not to attend Old Trafford but to instead pay their respects at home by watching the service on MUTV, ManUtd.com, our Official App or Facebook page.

With the match against Everton falling on the anniversary itself, there will be a minute’s silence before the game, which kicks off at 20:00 GMT, with both captains laying wreaths in memory of those who died. Both teams will also wear black armbands.

The tragic events at Munich will be marked by our other teams this weekend. Manchester United Women will remember the anniversary in their game on Sunday against Reading, with wreaths laid by the captains and black armbands worn by the players. Academy players will also wear black armbands in their games at the weekend.

Within Old Trafford, flags supplied to us by the fan group Big Lily will be placed in the stands remembering the legends we lost. Flags will also fly at half-mast at the stadium as a gesture of respect. A giant banner will be positioned in the centre of the Stretford End proclaiming the powerful words, ‘We’ll never die’.

Meanwhile, the Manchester Munich Memorial Foundation, who traditionally arrange a service in Munich, have also regretfully cancelled the ceremony. Instead, they will arrange for a wreath to be laid at the site on behalf of all United fans

"Alex Telles coming in has probably pushed him and he's been really top class in the last couple of months. His overlapping is there to see, his defending is there to see. It's good that he's got competition. He had Brandon Williams last year, and raised his game, and he's got Alex Telles this year and that has helped him to raise his game. Certainly, at the moment, as things stand, he is the best left-back in the league."

“There's Ben Chilwell down at Chelsea. Obviously, they're going through a tough time but he's a really decent player. There are one or two others - Ryan Bertrand at Southampton has been doing well and I'm missing one or two more, maybe Andy Robertson. But I agree with you. Luke is playing really, really well and certainly the best he's played for Manchester United.”

"I mean he had a really bad injury and picked up injuries on the back of that, over the following couple of seasons, so it was hard for him to find that bit of rhythm. I think he needs a rest every now and again. With Brandon last year and Alex this year being able to come in and, first of all, compete with him, then Ole has the luxury, I suppose, of having a couple of really good full-backs available."

“That's great news with the amount of games we've got coming up over the next four months or so. You need a big squad as much as anything, so let's hope Luke stays fit because he's a vital part of our team. He offers pace, we know that, and we know he's a good footballer and our best left-back when everything is going in well."

"He's in the position, he's got hold of the full-back position, you can't say the no.3 shirt any more, and he's got to remain there. He knows he has got to play well as Alex Telles will be after that position.”

“I mean he was very young when breaking through at Southampton. They've got a great Academy and a great tradition of bringing players through and Luke is one of them. He came to us at a very, very young age for a big price-tag quite a few years ago now but he's still young and still learning the game. You always make mistakes, it's part and parcel of being a defender. It's how you learn from them. You'll still be doing them at 34 and 35 but the thing is to keep them down to making a low number of mistakes throughout the season."

“It's going well for him, he's joining in the play, and his set-pieces are a plus as well. We know Alex certainly brings that to the full. With Edinson Cavani in there, he can stick a few more crosses in because he is the ultimate centre-forward so I think that helps as well.”

“The right side has traditionally, over the years, been a bit of a challenge for us going forward. We haven't found like a right-winger, right-back to fill the void when Antonio [Valencia] left but Aaron is getting better."

“I thought Mason's performance was excellent, even though he didn't score. So the two of them can form a very good right side.”

“We moved the ball really well, quickly. We used the width, we had movements in behind, we had strikers who wanted to get on the end of it scoring goals - even had full-backs wanting to be on the end of it. It was one of those performances you once in a while get and you enjoy. I am sure everyone enjoyed being out there in a Man United shirt. We’ve been waiting for them to show their magic and tonight was the night that they could go and enjoy. We haven’t had too many of them where you can sit down in the second half and enjoy the football. They enjoyed it and [there were] some good performances.”

"You can’t pick out any one performance [that was best]. But the reaction from everyone when they scored, though it was offside, still that woke everyone up again and we finished the game very strongly.”

“You don’t really see many of them tackles around anymore. I’m glad Scott [McTominay] is well. It looked like a bad one when he stayed down but he’s just got away with a couple of bruises.”

“Yes you want to take your chances, you want to score goals of course. Sometimes a league position can be decided by goal difference. So we knew that when they got the sending off this is the chance to score goals. But you have to get the first one that’s the main thing. If you get the first one they have to open up a little bit and then you’ll get more and more chances to score more goals. We’ve been on the end of goal difference being the deciding factor unfortunately and of course, it was important to make the right decisions, play as well as you can and don’t think about them being 10 men or whatever. Play as well as you can.”

"Aaron [Wan-Bissaka] kept going in there at the back post and Luke [Shaw] kept putting crosses in, which we’ve asked him to do. I thought they did well. It’s always hard when they [sit] just outside the box. It was about getting quality and width and we did.”
