  • Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Sunday is the perfect game for players and fans

"They're doing well in the league, that's for sure, but we're looking forward to this game. It's the perfect game for the players and fans. We've had a tough time, a difficult time lately and I'm sure we'll give them a good game. I'm just working as planned, it's business as usual, trying to improve the team, trying to work towards something. We're heading somewhere, we feel, but we need results and I expect the players to come out and prove why they're at Manchester United . The mood in a football club is affected by results, but it's been better than expected within here and people that you meet can see what we're trying to do. But winning games is the biggest thing, that breeds confidence. It's a determined bunch of players and a determined club, but you can't say we walk around smiling all the time.”

“At times last season, I didn't feel they had the robustness or the mentality at times. We've been working really hard on the physical robustness, the conditioning. Of course we’ve had injuries, but maybe that’s part of the process here. When Jurgen came in at Liverpool, he also seemed to get a few injuries early on, because of the workload and intensity he wanted his team to play with, but you don’t see that any more. He can play with the same 11 every week and we can get there.”...

  • Ole Gunnar Solskjaer backs the transfer decisions he has made including the departures

“Listen, with the culture that we want to build, I had to make those decisions. Of course, when you lose the majority of your front creativity that we started with, you're going to struggle to create as many chances as you’d like. Against Newcastle, we had 75 per cent of possession, but we weren't able to carve out that opening. The pressing up high has been very good, all the attitude and desire has been very good, but not enough chances created and chances haven’t been taken. Sometimes that's confidence, that’s human nature, you see players missing chances they won't normally miss. But it's up to us to keep working and get the ball in between the posts, because that goal never moves. That’s the easiest bit, because you know where it is.”

"Yesterday no chance for De Gea and Pogba. Today it’s a maybe. Tomorrow it’s a chance. The less your opponent manager knows about you the better. In four years in England it is still really strange for me about not knowing whether a player is fit or not. In Germany we allow the press to watch training four or five times a week! But I expect Martial, Rashford and James on the pitch. The speed they have and quality all across the pitch."...

"When Sky made a combined line-up of 11 Liverpool payers, it’s a joke and building a banana skin. At the moment the world is a circus and we are in the centre. A couple of people want us to win, a couple of people want us to lose. I am aware of the strength of Man Utd."...

"A lot! It's the salt in the soup. Would love to prepare this game with a full week. But now we have an international break - same for both teams. The players from the international duty they all came back healthy which is very important. So we have three or four days with the full squad to prepare which is a little bit comfortable at least. I love it."...

"Alisson looks completely fine and the others had sessions. Two sessions to go and we will see. We will have to see how we deal with that situation. So far everything is good but still two sessions to come. They are doing better. How good we have to see. There's two more sessions to come. We have to make decisions and that's how it is. Nothing is fixed yet."...

"No, I’ve never felt it's too big for me. I’m confident in what we're trying to do and I’m confident in my staff - the coaching and what’s happening here every single day. I've been so impressed. Michael, Kieran, Richard, the coaching, the improvement is there to see for us but it’s about results. Start winning games, start scoring goals, we need to create more chances because at the back we've looked solid. But we haven't been adventurous enough, taking enough risks. If you watch the best teams they take more risks with the ball, they make more runs in behind and that’s part of the process for the boys. When they’re losing confidence maybe they want to play it a bit more safe but it’s not safety that does it here - at this club you do take risks. The best teams around take more risks more runs and maybe the boys when they lose confidence they play safe and it's my duty to say it's not safety."...

"I speak to Ed loads of times and we speak regularly. And, as we've spoken about so many times, we do have a plan. We know that we have made some decisions that maybe in the short-term would harm us but we know in the long term will benefit us and that's part of the plan. But results are always the main thing and we can move forward quicker if we get results and performances. But I’m sure that we will get there. It is still planning for the next transfer window and the summer transfer window and how we see the team moving forward."

"Paul is part of our plan going forward. And I've spoken to Paul so many times. He's been playing through the pain barrier. He's been criticised left, right and centre, but when he came back, Rochdale, Arsenal he could have easily opted not played in them. He wanted to play, to try to get back, it was too painful. He had that scan, he's on the way back, he's mending, he's recovering, he's been on a few days off - working - but he's away from here. And it's a picture. When you're at Man United you do get pictures, speculation. I don't have any problem with that at all."...

  • Paul Scholes praises David Gill and says we need four or five good transfer windows to sort the mess out

"I think four or five transfer windows and they've got to be four or five good transfer windows. I think Ole's first few signings have been very good, very promising and as long as he's the man in charge of the players that are coming in, then I don't see a problem. We hope it goes for challenging for league titles and Champions Leagues. When you look five or six years ago when Alex Ferguson left — the other person who probably didn't get the credit he deserved was David Gill. He was a football man, he knew football. And from the day he went, as well as Sir Alex, it's been difficult. I think there were alarm bells straight away really when David Moyes took over and he signed Juan Mata and Fellaini for something like £70million, who are good players in their own right but I don't think they were Man United players. I don't think Alex Ferguson or David Gill would have signed those type of players and I think from then on, alarm bells have rang and we're in the position we are now because of buying players who weren't Man United players. Ole is there now and he's got the opportunity to put that right."...

  • Ed Woodward says United's commercial arm never rules the football side and Utd is full of football men

"The reality of Manchester United is we are a club in two parts. First of all, we are an incredible 141-year footballing institution with all that history, all that legacy, all that tradition and that tradition of success. That can never, ever change. We need to keep that protected. Like other football clubs, our commercial business allows us to reinvest in the football side. It’s how these two interact with each other at Manchester United that results in us having a competitive advantage in this area. What’s important is the commercial side is never allowed to take priority over the football side. There is a myth that we have non-football people making football decisions, and I think it’s insulting to the brilliant people who work on the football side in this club. Many of the senior staff on the football side of the club have been in their roles for over 10 years. Some of our scouts have worked with us for more than 25 years. We’ve expanded our recruitment department in recent years and we believe this now runs in an efficient and productive way. Player recommendations and decisions are worked on by this department and by the first-team manager and his staff, not by senior management.”

  • Ed Woodward says he and Ole are aligned on United's objectives and looks to the form when he arrived

"Ole’s vision maps exactly to the core three football objectives we have. We must win trophies, we must play attacking football, and we must give youth its chance. The middle section of last season, after Ole’s arrival, feels most relevant to what we want to achieve and where we want to be. We saw a team playing fast, fluid football, with a clear representation of the style and philosophy the manager wants. The changes we saw over the summer have resulted in a very young squad. But it’s also a squad, with the players and the culture, that provides a base camp for us to build and grow from as we start our new journey.”
